Reward of washing one’s head with Marshmallow (Khatmi)
حَدَّثَنِی أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ یَحْیَی الْعَطَّارُ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی سَعِیدٍ الْقَمَّاطِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: غَسْلُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْخِطْمِیِّ أَمَانٌ مِنَ الصُّدَاعِ وَ بَرَاءَهٌ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَ طَهُورٌ لِلرَّأْسِ مِنَ الْحَزَازِ.
1. It was narrated to me by Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-’Attar from his father from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Musa b. Umar from Muhammad b. Sinan from Abi Sa’eed al-Qammat from Umar b. Yazid from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “Washing head with marsh- mallow (Khatmi) ends headache, diseases and poverty and protects head from dryness.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ أَبِی أَیُّوبَ الْمَدَائِنِیِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عَمِیرَهَ عَنْ سُفْیَانَ بْنِ الشمط [السِّمْطِ] عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: غَسْلُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْخِطْمِیِّ یَنْفِی الْفَقْرَ وَ یَزِیدُ فِی الرِّزْقِ وَ قَالَ هُوَ نشر [نُشْرَهٌ].
2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Muhammad b. Isa from Abi Ayoob’ al-Madaini from Ibn Abi ’Umayra from Sufyan b. al-Shamt [al-Samt] from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “It is a protection.”
وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ یُونُسَ بُزُرْجَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع یَقُولُ غَسْلُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْخِطْمِیِّ یَجْلِبُ الرِّزْقَ جَلْباً.
3. Imam Musa Kadhim (a.s.) says, “Washing head with Khatmi is the best way to increase one’s earnings.”

Reward of washing head with Jujube (Beri) leaves
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ زَیْدٍ الْبُرْسِیِّ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع یَقُولُ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَغْسِلُ رَأْسَهُ بِالسِّدْرِ وَ یَقُولُ اغْسِلُوا رُءُوسَکُمْ بِوَرَقِ السِّدْرِ فَإِنَّهُ قَدَّسَهُ کُلُّ مَلَکٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَ کُلُّ نَبِیٍّ مُرْسَلٍ وَ مَنْ غَسَلَ رَأْسَهُ بِوَرَقِ السِّدْرِ صَرَفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَسْوَسَهَ الشَّیْطَانِ سَبْعِینَ یَوْماً وَ مَنْ صَرَفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَسْوَسَهَ الشَّیْطَانِ سَبْعِینَ یَوْماً لَمْ یَعْصِ وَ مَنْ لَمْ یَعْصِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّهَ.
1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) says that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) used to wash his head with Jujube leaves and say, “Wash your head with jujube leaves for all the angels and prophets consider this holy. Allah will keep away evil thoughts of Shaitaan for seventy days from the one who washes his head with jujube leaves. That person won’t commit sins and one who does not commit sins will enter Paradise.”
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنْ عِیسَی بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعَلَوِیِّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص اغْتَمَّ فَأَمَرَهُ جَبْرَئِیلُ ع أَنْ یَغْسِلَ رَأْسَهُ بِالسِّدْرِ.
2. It is narrated from Isa bin Abdullah Alawi who has narrated from his father and he in turn from his father that when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) used to be sad, Jibraeel (a.s.) used to come to him and say, “Do wash your head with jujube leaves.”

Reward of dyeing one’s hair
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی إِبْرَاهِیمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْأَنْصَارِیِّ عَنْ عِیسَی بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ أَبِی طَالِبٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ: بَلَغَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص أَنَّ قَوْماً مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ صَفَّرُوا لِحَاهُمْ فَقَالَ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ إِنِّی لَأُحِبُّ أَنْ أَرَاهُمْ قَالَ عَلِیٌّ ع فَمَرَرْتُ عَلَیْهِمْ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ فَأَتَوْهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ قَالَ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا ذَلِکَ مِنْهُ رَغِبُوا فَأَقْنَوْا قَالَ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِکَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص قَالَ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِیمَانِ إِنِّی لَأُحِبُّ أَنْ أَرَاهُمْ قَالَ عَلِیٌّ ع فَمَرَرْتُ عَلَیْهِمْ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ فَأَتَوْهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ قَالَ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِیمَانِ فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا ذَلِکَ مِنْهُ بَقُوا عَلَیْهِ حَتَّی مَاتُوا.
1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar who said it was narrated to me by Ibrahim b. Hashim from Muhammad b. Ali al-Ansari from Isa b. Abdillah from Muhammad b. Umar b. Ali b. Abi Talib from his grandfather who said: “This is the dye of faith.” After hearing this saying, those people continued this deed till they lived.”
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ ظَرِیفِ بْنِ نَاصِحٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ خَلِیفَهَ الْعَبْدِیِّ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّی الْیَمَانِیِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَحَبُّ خِضَابِکُمْ إِلَی اللَّهِ الْحَالِکُ.
2. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) says, “The color of dye, which Allah likes the most is dark black.”
حَدَّثَنِی أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْبَغْدَادِیِّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَکِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَیْدٍ رَفَعَ الْحَدِیثَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص دِرْهَمٌ فِی الْخِضَابِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ نَفَقَهِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ فِی سَبِیلِ اللَّهِ وَ فِیهِ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَهَ خَصْلَهً یَطْرُدُ الرِّیحَ مِنَ الْأُذُنَیْنِ وَ یَجْلُو الْغِشَاوَهَ مِنَ الْبَصَرِ وَ یُلَیِّنُ الْخَیَاشِیمَ وَ یُطَیِّبُ النَّکْهَهَ وَ یَشُدُّ اللِّثَهَ وَ یُذْهِبُ الصُّنَانَ وَ یُقِلُّ وَسْوَسَهَ الشَّیْطَانِ وَ تَفْرَحُ بِهِ الْمَلَائِکَهُ وَ یَسْتَبْشِرُ بِهِ الْمُؤْمِنُ وَ یَغِیظُ بِهِ الْکَافِرَ وَ هِیَ زِینَهٌ وَ طِیبٌ وَ بَرَاءَهٌ لَهُ فِی قَبْرِهِ وَ یَسْتَحْیِی مِنْهُ مُنْکَرٌ وَ نَکِیرٌ.
3. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) says, “Spending a dirham for dye is equal to spending a hundred dirhams in the way of Allah. There are fourteen benefits of applying dye – it stops air from ears, improves eyesight, softens the root of nose, mouth smells good, jaws become strong, removes the odor of armpits, evil thoughts lessen, angels become happy, it is a cause of glad-tidings for a believer and suffering for a disbeliever, it is the cause of beauty, fragrance and avoidance of the hardships of grave and Munkir and Nakir would shy due to dye.”
وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ الصُّوفِیِّ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ أَبِی الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ عُبْدُوسِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ الْبَغْدَادِیِّ رَفَعَ الْحَدِیثَ إِلَی أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: الْحِنَّاءُ یَذْهَبُ بِالسَّهَکِ وَ یَزِیدُ فِی مَاءِ الْوَجْهِ وَ یُطَیِّبُ النَّکْهَهَ وَ یُحَسِّنُ الْوَلَدَ وَ قَالَ مَنِ اطَّلَی فَتَدَلَّکَ بِالْحِنَّاءِ مِنْ قَرْنِهِ إِلَی قَدَمِهِ نُفِیَ عَنْهُ الْفَقْرُ.
4. And from the previous chain from Ibrahim b. Ishaq from Ismail al-Sufi from al-Abbas b. Abi al-Abbas from Ubdus b. Ibrahim al-Baghdadi who raised this narration to Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “One who applies henna from head to toe after using Noorah (depilatory made of lime) his poverty would end.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ سَعِیدِ بْنِ جَنَاحٍ عَنْ سُلَیْمَانَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْجَعْفَرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ ع قَالَ: الْخِضَابُ بِالسَّوَادِ زِینَهٌ لِلنِّسَاءِ مَکْبَتَهٌ لِلْعَدُوِّ.
5. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali b. Majluwayh from Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from Mansur b. al-Abbas from Sa’eed b. Janah from Sulayman b. Ja’far al-Ja’fari from Abi al-Hassan (a.s.) who said: “Black dye is the cause of beauty for women and a cause of defeat of enemies.”
