Amending one’s Properties and Planning for one’s Living
3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِصْلاحُ الْمَالِ مِنَ الإيمَانِ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Tha’labah and others from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Keeping one’s wealth in a proper shape is part of belief.’”
4- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ سِرْحَانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَكِيلُ تَمْراً بِيَدِهِ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ لَوْ أَمَرْتَ بَعْضَ وُلْدِكَ أَوْ بَعْضَ مَوَالِيكَ فَيَكْفِيَكَ فَقَالَ يَا دَاوُدُ إِنَّهُ لا يُصْلِحُ الْمَرْءَ الْمُسْلِمَ إِلا ثَلاثَةٌ التَّفَقُّهُ فِي الدِّينِ وَالصَّبْرُ عَلَى النَّائِبَةِ وَحُسْنُ التَّقْدِيرِ فِي الْمَعِيشَةِ.
4. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Faddal from Dawud ibn Sarhan who has said the following: “I saw abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), measure dates with his own hands; and I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I wish you would have ordered certain persons of your servants or sons to help you.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Dawud, a Muslim cannot achieve a proper condition without three things: proper understanding of religion, exercising patience in hardships, and proper planning for his living and sustenance.’”
5- عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَبَلَةَ عَنْ ذَرِيحٍ الْمُحَارِبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِأَهْلِ بَيْتٍ خَيْراً رَزَقَهُمُ الرِّفْقَ فِي الْمَعِيشَةِ.
5. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jabalah from Darih al-Muharibiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, wills good for a family He grants them ease in their living conditions.’”
6- عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَلَيْكَ بِإِصْلاحِ الْمَالِ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ مَنْبَهَةً لِلْكَرِيمِ وَاسْتِغْنَاءً عَنِ اللَّئِيمِ.
6. It is narrated from him (narrator of previous Fladith) from certain persons of our people from Salih ibn Hamzah from certain persons of our people Hamzah who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You must manage your wealth properly; it increases respect for you and freedom of want from envious ones.’”

Hard Work for the Family
1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الْكَادُّ عَلَى عِيَالِهِ كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abi ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A person working hard for his family is like a Mujahid (fighter) for the cause of Allah.’”
2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا ابْنِ آدَمَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الَّذِي يَطْلُبُ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا يَكُفُّ بِهِ عِيَالَهُ أَعْظَمُ أَجْراً مِنَ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from ‘Isma’il ibn Mehran from Zakariya’ ibn Adam from abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘One who works to find sustenance of the extra- generosity of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, to provide for his family is granted a reward greater than a Mujahid (fighter) for the cause of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’”
3- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ الرَّجُلُ مُعْسِراً فَيَعْمَلُ بِقَدْرِ مَا يَقُوتُ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ وَأَهْلَهُ وَلا يَطْلُبُ حَرَاماً فَهُوَ كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ.
3. Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Rib’iy ibn ‘Abd Allah from Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one has difficulty in providing for his family and works to meet his own needs and the needs of his family and does not work for unlawful kind of sustenance, he is like a Mujahid (fighter) for the cause of Allah.”

Earning Lawful kind of Sustenance
1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَدْعُو اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يَرْزُقَنِي الْحَلالَ فَقَالَ أَتَدْرِي مَا الْحَلالُ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَمَّا الَّذِي عِنْدَنَا فَالْكَسْبُ الطَّيِّبُ فَقَالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (عَلَيْهِما السَّلام) يَقُولُ الْحَلالُ قُوتُ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ وَلَكِنْ قُلْ أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ الْوَاسِعِ.
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Once I asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, please pray for me to Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, so He grants me lawful sustenance.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Do you know what lawful sustenance is?’ I replied, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, according to our information it is clean earning.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Ali ibn Al-Husayn (a.s.), would say, ‘Lawful sustenance is the sustenance of the chosen ones.’ You, however, should say, ‘I pray to You to grant me wide-ranging sustenance.’”
2- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُعَمَّرِ بْنِ خَلادٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى جَمِيعاً عَنْ مُعَمَّرِ بْنِ خَلادٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الثَّانِي (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ نَظَرَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) إِلَى رَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ الْحَلالِ فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) سَأَلْتَ قُوتَ النَّبِيِّينَ قُلِ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقاً وَاسِعاً طَيِّباً مِنْ رِزْقِكَ.
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad and Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa all from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad from abu al-Hassan, al-Thani, who has said the following: “Once abu Ja‘far (a.s.), looked at a man who said, ‘O Lord, I pray to You to grant me lawful sustenance.’ Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), said, ‘You have asked of the kind of sustenance of the prophets. Say, “O Lord, grant me of Your extended and clean sustenance.’””

Saving for One’s Living Expenses
1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ إِنَّ الإنْسَانَ إِذَا أَدْخَلَ طَعَامَ سَنَتِهِ خَفَّ ظَهْرُهُ وَاسْتَرَاحَ وَكَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) لا يَشْتَرِيَانِ عُقْدَةً حَتَّى يُحْرَزَ إِطْعَامُ سَنَتِهِمَا.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from al-Hassan ibn al-Jahm who has said the following: “I heard al-Rida’ (a.s.), saying, ‘If one saves food for one year, his burden becomes light and he feels comfortable. Abu Ja’far and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, would not buy anything before reserving their food for one year.”
