Reward of silence
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِیسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ عِمْرَانَ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ رِجَالِهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: لَا یَزَالُ الْعَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنُ یُکْتَبُ مُحْسِناً مَا دَامَ سَاکِتاً فَإِذَا تَکَلَّمَ کُتِبَ مُحْسِناً أَوْ مُسِیئاً.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Idris from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Musa b. ’Imran from Ali b. al-Hussain b. Ribat from some of his men from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “A believer is counted among virtuous till he is silent. As soon as he speaks, he is included either among good people or bad ones.”

Reward of repenting
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِکُلِّ دَاءٍ دَوَاءٌ وَ دَوَاءُ الذُّنُوبِ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ.
1. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “There is a cure for every malady and the cure of sins is repentance.”
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ عِیسَی بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ سَلَّامٍ الْحَنَّاطِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنِ اسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ مِائَهَ مَرَّهٍ حِینَ یَنَامُ بَاتَ وَ قَدْ تَحَاتَّتِ الذُّنُوبُ کُلُّهَا عَنْهُ کَمَا تَتَحَاتُّ الْوَرَقُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَ یُصْبِحُ وَ لَیْسَ عَلَیْهِ ذَنْبٌ.
2. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from al-Hussain b. Ali from Isa b. Hisham from Salam al-Hannat from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “One who seeks the forgiveness of Allah a hundred times at bedtime all his sins are destroyed like dry leaves of a tree fall off and none of his sins remains in the morning.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یَحْیَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ نُوحٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَهَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجُعْفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ یَقُولُ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَقُولُ مُقَامِی فِیکُمْ وَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ لَکُمْ حِصْنٌ حَصِینٌ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ فَمَضَی أَکْثَرُ الْحِصْنَیْنِ وَ بَقِیَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ فَأَکْثِرُوا مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مَمْحَاهٌ لِلذُّنُوبِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ ما کانَ اللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَ أَنْتَ فِیهِمْ وَ ما کانَ اللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَ هُمْ یَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
3. It is narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “My presence among you and your repentance is a strong fortress to remain safe from chastisement.” Imam said, “Now our great protection is no longer with the world and the only thing remaining is repentance. So repent a lot for it wipes sins as Almighty Allah says: But Allah was not going to chastise them while you were among them, nor is Allah going to chastise them while yet they ask for forgiveness.”15
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْهَیْثَمِ بْنِ أَبِی مَسْرُوقٍ النَّهْدِیِّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ قَالَ: کَتَبْتُ إِلَی أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع عَلِّمْنِی شَیْئاً إِذَا أَنَا قُلْتُهُ کُنْتُ مَعَکُمْ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الْآخِرَهِ قَالَ فَکَتَبَ بِخَطٍّ أَعْرِفُهُ أَکْثِرْ مِنْ تِلَاوَهِ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ وَ رَطِّبْ شَفَتَیْکَ بِالاسْتِغْفَارِ.
4. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from al-Haytham b. Abi Masruq al-Hindi from Ismail b. Sahl who said: The narrator wrote to Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) to let him know those deeds, which will keep him along with Imam (a.s.) in this world and the hereafter. Imam (a.s.) replied, “Recite Innaa anzalnaa (Surah Qadr) extensively and your tongue should not stop from repenting.”
أَبِی ره عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَهَ بْنِ صَدَقَهَ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص طُوبَی لِمَنْ وَجَدَ فِی صَحِیفَتِهِ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَهِ تَحْتَ کُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ.
5. Imam Muhammad (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “One who has Astaghfirullaah written under each of his sin on the Day of Judgment is indeed fortunate.”
Rewards
Reward of repenting seventy times every day in the month of Shaban
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُوسَی بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْبَغْدَادِیُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُمْهُورٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی حَمْزَهَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ قَالَ فِی کُلِّ یَوْمٍ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ سَبْعِینَ مَرَّهً أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِی لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِیمُ الْحَیُّ الْقَیُّومُ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ کُتِبَ فِی الْأُفُقِ الْمُبِینِ قُلْتُ وَ مَا الْأُفُقُ الْمُبِینُ قَالَ قَاعٌ بَیْنَ یَدَیِ الْعَرْشِ فِیهِ أَنْهَارٌ تَطَّرِدُ فِیهِ الْقِدْحَانُ عَدَدَ النُّجُومِ.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah who said it was narrated to me by Musa b. Ja’far al-Baghdadi from Muhammad b. Jumhur from Abdillah b. Abdulrahman from Muhammad b. Abi Hamzah from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “One who recites Astaghfirullaahalladhee laa ilaaha illaa huwar rah’maanur rah’eemul h’ayyul qayyoomu wa atoobu ilaih seventy times every day in the month of Shaban his name will be noted in Afaq-e-Mubeen.” The narrator asked, “What is this Afaq-e- Mubeen?” There is a vast forest in front of the Divine Throne, which has springs flowing in it and has cups equal to the number of stars.”

Reward of repenting seventy times after Morning Prayer
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ السِّنْدِیِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَهَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ الْجُعْفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: مَنِ اسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ بَعْدَ صَلَاهِ الْفَجْرِ سَبْعِینَ مَرَّهً غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَ لَوْ عَمِلَ ذَلِکَ الْیَوْمَ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ ذَنْبٍ وَ مَنْ عَمِلَ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِینَ أَلْفَ ذَنْبٍ فَلَا خَیْرَ فِیهِ.
1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali Majluwayh from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Ali b. al-Sindi from Muhammad b. ’Amru b. Sahl from Harun b. Kharija from Jabir al-Ju’fi from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “One who seeks forgiveness of Allah seventy times after the Morning Prayer Allah forgives him even if he has committed seventy thousand sins in the previous day and one who has committed more than seventy thousand sins there is no good for him.”
Rewards
Reward of testifying the Oneness of Allah and prophethood of Muhammad (s.a.w.s.), saying Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji-oo’n at the time of difficulty, saying Alh’amdulillaah on hearing a good news and saying Astaghfirullaah on committing a sin
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ مُوسَی عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ بَکْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ اللَّهَبِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ کُنَّ فِیهِ کَانَ فِی نُورِ اللَّهِ الْأَعْظَمِ مَنْ کَانَ فِی عِصْمَهِ أَمْرِهِ شَهَادَهُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ أَنِّی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَ مَنْ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُ مُصِیبَهٌ قَالَ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَ إِنَّا إِلَیْهِ راجِعُونَ وَ مَنْ إِذَا أَصَابَ خَیْراً قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَ مَنْ إِذَا أَصَابَ خَطِیئَهً قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ.
1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “One who performs four deeds, becomes deserving of a great light of Allah. They are: testifying that there is no Lord except Allah and I am His prophet, saying Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji-oo’n at the time of difficulty, saying Alh’amdulillaah on hearing a good news and saying Astaghfirullaah on committing a sin.”
Rewards
Deeds which are rewarded soon
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ مُوسَی عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ بَکْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنَّ أَسْرَعَ الْخَیْرِ ثَوَاباً الْبِرُّ وَ إِنَّ أَسْرَعَ الشَّرِّ عِقَاباً الْبَغْیُ وَ کَفَی بِالْمَرْءِ عَیْباً أَنْ یَنْظُرَ مِنَ النَّاسِ إِلَی مَا یَعْمَی عَنْهُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ أَوْ یُعَیِّرَ النَّاسَ مَا لَا یَسْتَطِیعُ تَرْکَهُ أَوْ یُؤْذِیَ جَلِیسَهُ بِمَا لَا یَعْنِیهِ.
1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “The deed that is rewarded soon is a good action and the deed punished soon is injustice. The deed is bad enough when a person sees faults in others but is blind as far as his self is concerned and he advises people to avoid sins but does not avoid them himself and if he troubles with useless talk those who sit with him.”
