Should I go to the grave of the son of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) (Imam Ḥusain (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied: O Abā Sa’īd! Yes! Go to the grave of the son of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), the most blessed of the blessed ones, the most purified of the purified ones, and the most pious of the pious ones; for if you go to his Ziyārah, Allāh will register the reward of freeing twenty-five slaves for you. 1. Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain ibn Mat Al-Jawhari narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā ibn ‘Imrān Al-Ash’ari, from Mūsā ibn ‘Umar, from ‘Ali ibn Nu’mān, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Muskān, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sadiq (a.s.)) said: Verily (on the Day of ‘Arafah), Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted, manifests (His Mercy) to the Zuwwār of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) before He does (so) for the people who are in ‘Arafāt. He fulfils their needs, forgives their sins, and accepts their intercession for their requests. Thereafter, He attends to the people in ‘Arafāt and honours them in the same way.

3. My father, Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan, ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain, and (my brother) ‘Ali ibn Muḥammad ibn Qūlawayh all narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, and from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali Al-Būfaki, from Yaḥyā – who was the servant of Abī Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), from ‘Ali (ibn Ḥakam), from Safwān Al-Jammāl, who said: … I asked (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “What is the reward for those who are killed next to the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) – those who are captured by a dominating power and killed?” Imam (a.s.) replied: All of their sins will be forgiven with the first drop of their blood which is spilled. Then the angels will cleanse the clay from which they were created. The impurities which were mixed with their clay – (originally) from the filthy materials used in the clay of the disbelievers and the wicked ones – will be removed from their clay until it becomes as pure as the clay of the devoted prophets. Then their heart will be cleansed, expanded, and filled with faith. Therefore, they will meet Allāh while they are pure from every impurity which might be mixed with the heart or the body. They will be granted the power of intercession for their family members and one thousand of their brothers (in faith). Jabra`īl and the Angel of Death, along with (the rest of) the angels, will undertake establishing the prayers on them. Furthermore, their shroud and embalmment will be brought for them from Paradise. Their graves will be expanded, some lamps will be placed in them, and a door will be opened from Paradise to their graves. Then the angels will bring exquisite gifts from Paradise to them. Eighteen days later, they will be moved to the Sacred Sanctuary and they will stay there in the company of Allāh’s Divine Authorities until the trumpet, which will leave nothing alive, is sounded. When the trumpet is sounded for the second time and they are resurrected from their graves, the first among those who will shake hands with them will be the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), the Commander of the Believers (a.s.), and the successors (a.s.). They will give glad tidings to them and tell them to hold on to them and to follow them to the Pool where they will be allowed to drink and give water to whomever they wish.

My father narrated to me from Ḥusain ibn Ḥasan ibn Abān, from Muḥammad ibn Ūramah, from Abī ‘Abdillāh Al-Mu`min, from Ibn Muskān, from Sulaymān ibn Khālid, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) say: Verily every day and every night Allāh glances at the earth one hundred thousand times through which He forgives whomever He wills and punishes whomever He wills. Allāh specifically forgives those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.), their family members, and those for whom they (the Zuwwār of Ḥusain (a.s.)) will intercede on the Day of Judgment, regardless of who they may be, even if they are among those upon whom Hell is made obligatory. I asked, “Even if they are among those upon whom Hell is made obligatory?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes, as long as they are not NĀSIBǏ.”

Then a caller will call out, “Where are the Zuwwār of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” A large group of people will stand up. They will be told, “Take the hand of whomever you like and take them along (with you) to Paradise.” They will take whomever they like (to Paradise) to such an extent that a person will say to one of them, “O so-and-so! Do you not remember me?! I stood up for you once (as an act of respect).” Therefore, the man will take him to Paradise without being stopped.

Verily there are four thousand angels next to his grave (who have been there) since the day his life was taken. They are disheveled, covered with dust, and they cry over him (and will continue to do so) until the Day of Judgment. These angels accompany those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) back to their safe haven. If they become ill, the angels will visit them. And when they die, the angels will follow their corpses in their funerals.
