Restraint from Worldly Matters (Sins)
13ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّا لا نَعُدُّ الرَّجُلَ مُؤْمِناً حَتَّى يَكُونَ لِجَمِيعِ أَمْرِنَا مُتَّبِعاً مُرِيداً أَلا وَإِنَّ مِنِ اتِّبَاعِ أَمْرِنَا وَإِرَادَتِهِ الْوَرَعَ فَتَزَيَّنُوا بِهِ يَرْحَمْكُمُ الله وَكَبِّدُوا أَعْدَاءَنَا بِهِ يَنْعَشْكُمُ الله.
13. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “We do not consider a person a believer until that person follows us in all of our orders and has firmly decided to do so. The decision to exercise restraint against worldly matters consists of following our orders and commands. You must have this beautiful quality. May Allah grant you blessings. With this Quality you defeat our enemies, and Allah will grant you delight and happiness.”
14ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَجَّالِ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) كُونُوا دُعَاةً لِلنَّاسِ بِغَيْرِ أَلْسِنَتِكُمْ لِيَرَوْا مِنْكُمُ الْوَرَعَ وَالإجْتِهَادَ وَالصَّلاةَ وَالْخَيْرَ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ دَاعِيَةٌ.
14. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hajjal from al-‘Ala’ from ibn abu Ya’fur from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Preach to people without your tongue. You must show them restraint from worldly matters (sins). You should perform hard work, prayer and good deeds. Such behavior includes preaching.”
15ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الْعَلَوِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ الله بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الأوَّلِ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَثِيراً مَا كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ أَبِي يَقُولُ لَيْسَ مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا مَنْ لا تَتَحَدَّثُ الْمُخَدَّرَاتُ بِوَرَعِهِ فِي خُدُورِهِنَّ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِنَا مَنْ هُوَ فِي قَرْيَةٍ فِيهَا عَشَرَةُ آلافِ رَجُلٍ فِيهِمْ مِنْ خَلْقِ الله أَوْرَعُ مِنْهُ.
15. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Sa’id from Muhammad ibn Muslim from Muhammad ibn Hamza al-‘Alawi who has said the following: “’Ubayd Allah ibn Ali reported to me from Abu al-Hasan the 1st (a.s.) who has said, ‘I would often hear my father saying, 'He is not one of our Shia who the women in their homes do not speak of his piety, and he is not from our supporters if he lives in a village with ten thousand men and there is someone among them more pious than him.'"

Chastity
1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَا عُبِدَ الله بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ عِفَّةِ بَطْنٍ وَفَرْجٍ.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurara from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘No obedience and worship in the sight of Allah is better than to be a chaste person in matters of (one’s) stomach and genital organs.”
2ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الْعِبَادَةِ عِفَّةُ الْبَطْنِ وَالْفَرْجِ.
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Isma’il from Hanan ibn Sadir from his father who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘The best worship is to be chaste in the matters of stomach and genital organs.’”
3ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الأشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يَقُولُ أَفْضَلُ الْعِبَادَةِ الْعَفَافُ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ari from ‘Abd Allah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin (Ali ibn abu Talib) (a.s.) would say, ‘Chastity is the best worship.’”
4ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ مُعَلىً أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ لأبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنِّي ضَعِيفُ الْعَمَلِ قَلِيلُ الصِّيَامِ وَلَكِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ لا آكُلَ إِلا حَلالاً قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَيُّ الإجْتِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ عِفَّةِ بَطْنٍ وَفَرْجٍ.
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from Yahya ibn ‘Imran al-Halabi from Mu’alla abu ‘Uthman from abu Basir who has said the following: “Once a man said to abu Ja’far (a.s.) ‘My deeds are weak and my fasting is very little but I hope to eat only what is lawful.’ The narrator has said that the Imam then said, ‘What kind of hard work could be considered better than chastity of stomach and chastity of genital organs?”’
5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) أَكْثَرُ مَا تَلِجُ بِهِ أُمَّتِي النَّارَ الأجْوَفَانِ الْبَطْنُ وَالْفَرْجُ.
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Of my followers who go to hell, in the case of most of them it will so happen because of two hollow things: the stomach and the genital organs (for consuming unlawful things or committing sins)
6ـ وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) ثَلاثٌ أَخَافُهُنَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مِنْ بَعْدِي الضَّلالَةُ بَعْدَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ وَمَضَلاتُ الْفِتَنِ وَشَهْوَةُ الْبَطْنِ وَالْفَرْجِ.
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his sources of narrators who have said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘There are three things about which I am afraid for my followers after me: misguidance after recognition of the truth, confusion because of mischief and the desires of stomach and genital organs.’”
7ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ مَيْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ عِبَادَةٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ عِفَّةِ بَطْنٍ وَفَرْجٍ.
7. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from certain individuals of his people from Maymun al-Qaddah who has said the following: “I heard abu Ja’far (a.s.) saying, ‘There is no worship better than the chastity in matters of stomach and genital organs.’”
