The Sixty-Eighth Assembly, which is the Assembly of Tuesday, Ten Days Remaining from Jumada al-Ula, 368 AH.

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us from his father from Fadala b. Ayyub from Zayd al-Shahham from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir from his father (as). He said: The Prophet (s) became ill with the illness from which he passed away. So, Fatima the Mistress of Women (as) visited him, and with her were al-Hasan and al-Husayn (as). She took al-Hasan by her right hand and she took al-Husayn by her left hand. They walked, and Fatima was between them, until they entered the house of `A’isha. So, al-Hasan (as) sat to the right of the Messenger of Allah (s) and al-Husayn (as) sat to the left of the Messenger of Allah (s). They began kissing the body of the Messenger of Allah (s), but the Prophet (s) did not awake from his sleep. So, Fatima said to al-Hasan and al-Husayn: “My beloveds! Your grandfather has fallen asleep. So, go for a moment until he awakes, then return to him.” So, they said: “We are not going at this time.” So, al-Hasan lay on the right side of the Prophet (s) and al-Husayn lay on his left side until they fell asleep. They awoke before the Prophet (s), and Fatima (sa) had gone back to her house when they had slept. So, they said to `A’isha: “What did our mother do?” She said: “When you both fell asleep, she returned to her house.” So, they left in the darkness of a night that was muddled in thunder and lightning. The sky had loosened its rain and a light dazzled for them. They did not stop walking in that light, while al-Hasan’s right hand held al-Husayn’s left hand. They both walked and talked until they reached the yard of Bani Najjar. When they reached the yard alone, they did not know where they had gone. So, al-Hasan said to al-Husayn: “We have been alone [for so long] that we reached this point. We do not know where to go. So, let us sleep at this moment until we awake.” So, al-Husayn (as) said to him: “Go ahead, brother, I will do the same.” So, they both lay down, and each of them embraced the other, and they slept. The Prophet (s) then awoke from his sleep and he sent for them in the house of Fatima, but they were not there. He longed for them, so the Prophet (s) stood on his feet and he said: “My God, my Master, and my Lord! These two are my cubs, and they have gone due to shortage and starvation. O Allah! You are my guardian over them.” So, a light spread out for the Prophet (s), and he remained in it until he reached the yard of Bani Najjar and found them sleeping, embracing one another. The sky had folded over them like a plate, and even though it was raining intensely – more than anyone had seen before – Allah had prevented the rain from coming onto the land that they had been sleeping in. Not a single drop landed on them. They were encompassed by a serpent that had hair like a tree rich with reeds and two wings: one wing was covering al-Hasan, and one wing was covering al-Husayn. When the Prophet (s) saw them hemmed in, the serpent withdrew, saying: “O Allah! I bear witness to You and to Your angels that these two are the cubs of Your Prophet, and I protected them and I handed them over safely and healthily.” So, the Prophet (s) said to it: “O serpent! Who are you?” It said: “I am the messenger of the Jinn to you.” He said: “Which of the Jinn?” It said: “From the Jinn of Nusaybin, from a delegation of Bani Malih. We forgot a verse from the Book of Allah. So, they sent me to you so that you may teach us what we have forgotten from the Book of Allah. When I reached this place, I heard a caller call out: ‘O serpent! These two are the cubs of the Messenger of Allah, so protect them from pests, impairments, and disasters of the night and day.’ So, I protected them and I have handed them over safely and healthily to you.” Then, the serpent took the verse and left. The Prophet (s) took al-Hasan and put him on his right shoulder and put al-Husayn on his left shoulder. So, `Ali (as) came out and followed the Messenger of Allah (s). One of his companions said to him: “May my mother and my father be your sacrifice! Give me one of your cubs so that I may lighten [the load] for you.” So, he said: “Go, for Allah has heard your words and recognized your status.” Then, `Ali (as) met him and said: “May my mother and my father be your sacrifice, O Messenger of Allah! Give me one of my cubs and your cubs so that I may lighten for you.” So, the Prophet (s) turned to al-Hasan (as) and said: “O Hasan! Would you like to go to the shoulder of your father?” So, he said to him: “By Allah, grandfather, your shoulder is more beloved to me than the shoulder of my father.” Then, he turned to al-Husayn (as) and said: “O Husayn! Would you like to go to the shoulder of your father?” So, he said: “By Allah, grandfather, I say the same as my brother – your shoulder is more beloved to me than the shoulder of my father.” So, he took them to the house of Fatima (sa), and she had prepared dates for them and put them in front of them. They ate until they were satiated and happy. Then, the Prophet (s) said to them: “Stand now and wrestle.” So, they stood and wrestled – and Fatima (sa) had gone out for a need of hers – so, she entered, and she heard the Prophet (s) saying: “Yes, Hasan, strengthen yourself against al-Husayn, and wrestle with him.” Then, she said to him: “O father! I am astonished. You are encouraging this one over that one, the older against the younger?!” So, he said to her: “O my daughter! Are you not pleased that I am saying: ‘O Hasan! Strengthen yourself against al-Husayn, and wrestle with him’ while my beloved Gabriel is here saying: ‘O Husayn! Strengthen yourself against al-Hasan, and wrestle with him.’?”

The Sixty-Ninth Assembly, the Assembly of Friday, the Thirty-Second of Jumada al-Ula, 368 AH.

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Aban b. Taghlub from Abi `Abdillah Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq (as). He said: When the Messenger of Allah (s) was taken up to Bayt al-Maqdis, Gabriel had mounted him on the Buraq, and they reached Bayt al-Maqdis. He was given the prayer-niches of the prophets and he prayed with it. Then, he returned, and passed by a camel belonging to Quraysh. He found a vessel with water belonging to them. They were looking for a camel that belonged to them. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) drank from that water and left some remaining. When the Messenger of Allah (s) awoke, he said to Quraysh: Surely, Allah has taken me to Bayt al-Maqdis, and He showed me the relics of the prophets and their stations. I also passed by a camel belonging to Quraysh in such-and-such a place. It had strayed away from them, so I drank some of their water and I left some remaining. So, Abu Jahl said: He has given you an opportunity [to expose him], so ask him how many lanterns and candles it had? So, they said: O Muhammad! We have someone here who has entered Bayt al-Maqdis, so describe for us, how many lanterns, candles, and prayer-niches does it have? So, Gabriel (as) came and put the image of Bayt al-Maqdis before his face. So, he began describing what they had asked him regarding it. When he informed them, they said: Wait for the caravan, and we will ask them about what you have said So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said to them: It is true that the caravan will come to you with the sunrise. It is led by a grey camel. The next day, they proceeded to look to the hitch, and they said: The Sun rises at this hour. Then they saw the caravan as the Sun rose, led by a grey camel. So, they asked them about what the Messenger of Allah (s) said, and they said: It is as so. We lost a camel in such-and-such a place, and we had put water [with it], and we found that some water had remained. That did not increase anything in them but wickedness.

Al-Hasan b. Muhammad b. Sa`id al-Hashimi narrated to us. He said: Furat b. Ibrahim b Furat al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Ali al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali al-Shami narrated to us from his father. He said: Abu Jarir narrated to us. He said: `Ata’ al-Khurasani narrated to us, raising it to `Abd al-Rahman b. Ghanam. He said: Gabriel (as) came to the Messenger of Allah (s) with a beast that was smaller than a mule but bigger than a donkey. Its back legs were taller than its front legs. Its steps were as far as the eye could see. When the Prophet wanted to mount it, it prevented [him from doing so]. So, Gabriel (as) said: This is Muhammad. So, it humbled itself until it dropped to the Earth. He said: So, he mounted it. Whenever it landed, it would raise its front legs and bend its back legs. Whenever it climbed, it would raise its back legs and bend its front legs. In the darkness of the night, it passed by a loaded caravan. The caravan dispersed due to the shine of the Buraq. So, a man at the end of the caravan called to a boy of his at the front of the caravan: O so-and-so! A camel has been lost, and so-and-so has lost her burdens and broken her hand. The caravan belonged to Abi Sufyan. He said: He continued until he reached the middle of Balqa’ (in Jordan). He said: O Gabriel! I have become thirsty. Hand me, Gabriel, a vessel with water in it. So, he handed it to him, and he drank. Then, he passed by a community that was hanging by their tongues on hooks of fire. So, he said: Who are these, O Gabriel? So, he said: These are the ones whom Allah enriched with permitted things, but they sought the forbidden things. He said: Then, he passed by a community whose skin was being sewn by needles of fire. So, he said: Who are these, O Gabriel? So, he said: These are the ones who unlawfully take the virginity of women. Then, he passed by a man who was lifting a bundle of firewood. Every time he tries to lift it, more was added onto it. So, he said: Who is this, Gabriel? He said: This is a debtor who wants to pay his debt, but whenever he cannot, more was added onto him. Then, he passed by the eastern mountain by the Bayt al-Maqdis, and he found a hot gust and heard a sound. He said: What is this gust that I feel and this sound that I hear, Gabriel? He said: This is Hell. So, the Prophet (s) said: I seek refuge in Allah from Hell. Then, he found a pleasant gust to its right and heard a sound. So, he said: What is this gust that I feel and this sound that I hear, Gabriel? He said: This is Paradise. So, he said: I ask Allah for Paradise. He said: Then, he ended up at the gate of the city of Bayt al-Maqdis, in which was Heraclius. The gates of the city would be locked every night, and then they would come to him with the keys and put it at his head. On that night, the gate was prevented from being locked, so they informed him. So, he said: Double the number of guards. He said: So, the Messenger of Allah (s) came and entered Bayt al-Maqdis. Gabriel (as) came to the Rock and raised it. Gabriel took three cups from beneath it: a cup of milk, a cup of honey, and a cup of wine. He gave him the cup of milk and he drank it. Then, he gave him the cup of honey and he drank it. Then, he gave him the cup of wine, and he said: It has been forbidden, Gabriel. He said: Surely, if you would have drunken it, your Nation would have become misguided and would have split away from you. He said: Then, the Messenger of Allah (s) led seventy prophets in Bayt al-Maqdis. He said: With Gabriel (as), an angel came down that had never stepped on the Earth; and with him were the keys to the treasuries of the Earth. So, he said: O Muhammad! Your Lord recites the salaam to you, and He says: “These are the keys to the treasuries of the Earth. If you wish, you could be a servant-prophet, and if you wish, you could be a kingly prophet.” So, Gabriel (as) gestured to him: Humility, Muhammad. So, he said: Rather, I will be a servant-prophet. Then, he ascended to heaven. When he ended up at the gate of heaven, Gabriel opened it, and they said: Who is this? He said: Muhammad. They said: The best one to come has come. So, he entered, and he did not pass by a single angel except that it greeted him, prayed for him, and came close to him. He passed by an elder sitting under a tree with children around him. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: Who is this elder, Gabriel? He said: This is your father Ibrahim. He said: Who are these children around him? He said: These are the children of the believers. They are around him as he feeds them. Then he passed by an elder sitting on a chair: when he looked to his right, he smiled and became happy, but when he looked to his left, he became sorrowful and wept. So, he said: Who is this, Gabriel? He said: This is your father Adam. When he sees his descendants enter Paradise, he smiles and becomes joyful. When he sees his descendants enter the Fire, he becomes sorrowful and weeps. Then, he passed by an angel sitting on a chair, so he greeted him. He did not see the joy in his face that he saw in the other angels, so he said: O Gabriel! I did not pass by an angel but that I saw something that I loved from him, except for this one. So, who is this angel? He said: This is Malik, the keeper of the Fire. He was one of the most beautiful angels in his face, but when he was made the keeper of the Fire, this happened to him. He saw what Allah did to its people and he did not smile after that. Then, he continued until he was given the obligation of fifty prayers. He said: So, he accepted that. Then, he passed by Musa (as), who said: O Muhammad! How many have been obligated on your Nation? He said: Fifty prayers. He said: Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the load on your Nation. He said: So, he went back, then he passed by Musa (as), who said: How many have been obligated on your Nation? He said: Such and such. He said: Surely, your Nation is the weakest of nations, so return to your Lord and ask him to lighten the load on your Nation, for surely, I was with the Children of Israel, and they were not able to do even less than this. So, he did not stop returning to his Lord until He made it five prayers. He said: Then, he passed by Musa (as), who said: How many have been obligated on your Nation? He said: Five prayers. He said: Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the load on your Nation. He said: I am too embarrassed to return to my Lord again. Then, he passed by Ibrahim the Friend of the Merciful, and he called out to him from behind him, saying: O Muhammad! Recite the salaam to your Nation on my behalf and inform them that the homes of Paradise are pure and its dust is perfume. Its plains are white, and their vegetation is "may Allah be glorified, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest, and there is no ability nor power except by Allah (subhanallah, alhamdulillah, la ilaha illallah, Allahu akhbar, and la hawla wala quwwata illa billah)", so pass by your Nation and [tell them to] plant frequently in them. Then, he passed by a caravan that was headed by a grey camel. Then, he went to the people of Mecca and informed them of his journey. In Mecca there were a people who had been to Bayt al-Maqdis, so he informed them. Then, he said: The sign of this is that a caravan will come at the moment of sunrise, headed by a grey mule. He said: So, they looked, and they found that it had risen, and he informed them that it had passed by Abi Sufyan, and that it had lost a camel in part of the night, and that he called for a boy of his at the front of the caravan: "O so-and-so! This camel has been lost, and so-and-so has lost her burdens and broken her hand." So, they asked him about this, and they found that it was just as the Prophet (s) had said.

Muhammad b. al-Qasim al-Astarabadi narrated to us. He said: Ja`far b. Ahmad narrated to us. He said: Abu Yahya Muhammad b. `Abdullah b. Yazid al-Muqri narrated to us. He said: Sufyan b. `Uyayna narrated to us from al-Zuhri. He said: I was with `Ali b. al-Husayn (as), and a man from his companions had come to him. So, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said to him: What news do you bring, man? So, the man said: My news – O son of the Messenger of Allah – is that I have incurred a debt of four hundred gold coins, and I do not have the means to pay it off. I have weighty dependants, and I do not have that which I owe them. He said: So, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) wept intensely. So, I said to him: What makes you weep, O son of the Messenger of Allah? So, he said: Doesn’t one weep after afflictions and great hardships? They said: Yes, O son of the Messenger of Allah. He said: So, what hardship or affliction is greater for the sanctity of the believer than to see his believing brother in a difficulty that he cannot stop and witness a poverty that he cannot uplift himself from?! He said: So, they left their gathering upon that. He said: So, one of the opponents (mukhalifin) who would insult `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said: It is astonishing that these, who, in one instance, claim that the heavens and the Earth and all things obey them, and that Allah does not reject their requests, then in another instance, admit to being unable to rectify the situations of the choicest of their brothers. [News of] that came to the man related to the story. So, he went to `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) and said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah! I was informed that so-and-so said such-and-such, and that was harder on me than my difficult situation. So, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said [to his maidservant]: May Allah relieve you, so-and-so, hold up my pre-fasting meal (suhur) and my breakfast (futur). So, she held up two morsels. Then, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said to the man: Take this, for we have nothing else but this. Allah will relieve you through this, and He will give you expansive goodness through this. So, the man took them (the two morsels) and went to the market not knowing what to do with them. He was thinking about the weight of his debt and the condition of his dependants. Satan whispered to him: What is the status of these two [meals] in comparison to your need? So, he passed by a fish seller who had a fish with an odour. So, he said to him: This fish of yours is no good for you, and this morsel is no good for me, so would you trade your no-good fish for my no-good morsel? So, he said: Yes. So, he took the fish and had one morsel remaining. Then, he passed by a man who had a small amount of salt. So, he said to him: Would you trade this small amount of salt for this small morsel? He said: Yes. So, the man had fish and salt, and said: I will rectify this [fish] with this [salt]. When he cut the stomach of the fish, he found two luxurious pearls in it. He praised Allah for them. He went back to his house, and there was a knock on his door. He went out to see who was at the door. He found that the fish seller and the salt seller had come, each of whom said: O servant of Allah! We and our dependants tried eating this morsel, but our teeth could not handle it. We know that you are in a bad condition and that you are forbearing misery. So, we return this bread to you, and we want you to keep what you have taken from us. So, he took the two morsels from them. After they left, there was a knock on his door. He found the messenger of `Ali b. al-Husayn (as), who entered and said: He says to you: “Surely, Allah has given you relief, so return our food to us, for none but us can eat it.” So, the man sold the pearls for great wealth and paid off his debt. After that, his condition improved. So, one of the opponents said: How severe is this disparity! We thought that `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) was unable to rectify his poverty, but he enriched him with great wealth. How can this be? How can he be unable to rectify poverty when he can enrich this person with great wealth? So, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said: This is what Quraysh said to the Prophet (s): How can he go from Mecca to Bayt al-Maqdis and witness what is in it of the relics of the prophets; and return to it in one night? It took him twelve days to go from Mecca to Medina. [He said:] That was [said] after he had emigrated from it. Then, `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) said: They are ignorant of the order of Allah and the order of His friends with Him. Surely, the exalted ranks cannot be reached except by submitting to Allah, abandoning proposals [that are contrary] to Him, and being content with what He plans for you. Surely, the friends of Allah are patient with adversity and misfortunes in a way that others are not, so because of that, Allah grants them success in all their requests. However, with that, they only want from Him what He wants for them.

The Seventieth Assembly, the Assembly of Tuesday, the Twenty-Seventh of Jumada al-Ula, 368 AH.

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to me. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: A man’s supplication for his brother when he is away from him generates sustenance (rizq) and repels hateful things.

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Natana (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim. He said: I saw `Abdullah b. Jundab in a position, and I had not seen a position more beautiful than his position. He did not stop stretching forth his hands to the sky [in supplication] while tears ran down his cheeks and reached the ground. When the people came, I said to him: O Aba Muhammad! I have never seen a position more beautiful than your position. He said: By Allah, I only supplicated for my brothers, and that is because Aba’l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far (as) informed me that when one prays for his brother when he is away, a call is made from the Throne: “Multiplied by one hundred thousand for you” – I would hate to drop a guaranteed [supplication] that equalled one hundred thousand [acceptances] than one [supplication] that I do not know whether it will be accepted or not.

Muhammad b. Muhammad b. `Isam al-Kulayni (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ya`qub al-Kulayni narrated to us from `Ali b. Muhammad from Muhammad b. Sulayman from Isma`il b. Ibrahim from Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Tamimi from al-Husayn b. `Ilwan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: There is not a believing man nor woman who has passed from the beginning of time till the Day of Resurrection except that they are an intercessor for those they mentioned in their supplication: “O Allah! Forgive the believing men and women.” A believer will be ordered to the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, but the believing men and women will say: “O our Lord! This is one who would pray for us, so accept our intercession for him.” So, Allah will accept their intercession and they will be saved.

Ahmad b. `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from my grandfather from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hisham b. Salim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: Whoever supplicates for forty believers before he supplicates for himself, his supplication will be granted for him.

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from Muhammad b `Ali al-Kufi from al-Hasan b. Abi `Uqba al-Sayrafi from al-Husayn b. Khalid al-Sayrafi. He said: I said to Abi’l Hasan `Ali b. Musa al-Rida (as): [What is the ruling of] a man who purifies himself [after defecation] while wearing a ring on his finger with “there is no god but Allah (la ilaha illallah)” etched on it? So, he said: That would be hateful of him. So, he said: May I be your ransom! Didn’t the Messenger of Allah (s) and every one of your forefathers (as) do that while their ring was on their finger? He said: Of course, but they would wear their ring on the right hand. So, fear Allah and watch yourself. I said: What was etched on the ring of Amir al-Mu’minin (as)? So, he said: Why do you not ask me about those who came before him? I said: Then I ask [that of] you. He said: On the ring of Adam, it was etched: “there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (la ilaha illallah, muhammadan rasulullah)”. Habatullah had the same as him. When Nuh (as) boarded the Ark, Allah revealed to him: “O Nuh! If you fear drowning, then sanctify Me one thousand times, then ask Me to save you, and I will save you from drowning and those who believe in you.” He said: When Nuh (as) and those with him settled on the Ark and he released the rope, the storm wind gusted them, and Nuh feared that he may drown. The wind intensified, but he was unable to sanctify one thousand times. So, he said in Syriac: “Glorify Him a thousand thousand times. O waves, settle (Haluliya alfa alfa, ya mariya atqin).” He said: So, the rope settled, and the Ark continued. So, Nuh (as) said: “Surely, I must not abandon the words by which Allah saved me from drowning.” He said: So, he etched in his ring: “There is no god, one thousand times over. O Lord! Rectify me (la ilaha illallah alfa marra. Ya rabb, islahni).” He said: When Ibrahim (as) was placed in the furnace, Gabriel (as) became angry. So, Allah revealed to him: “What made you angry, Gabriel?” He said: “O Lord! Your Friend, who is the only servant of Yours who worships You on the face of the Earth, has been overcome by Your enemy and his enemy!” So, Allah revealed to him: “Be quiet. Only a servant who fears death like you would hurry. He is My servant, and I can take him if I wish.” He said: So, Gabriel (as) was relieved, and he turned to Ibrahim (as) and said: "Do you need anything?" So, he said: "From you? No." So, at that moment, Allah descended a ring with six phrases: "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, there is no ability nor power except by Allah, I have delegated my matters to Allah, I have relied my back on Allah, and Allah is sufficient for me (la ilaha illallah, Muhammadan rasulullah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, fawadtu amri ilalllah, asnadtu thahri ilallah, hasbiallah)." Then, Allah revealed that he should wear this ring, "for I will make the fire cool and peaceful for you." He said: The etching on the ring of Musa (as) was two phrases taken from the Torah: "Be patient and you will be rewarded, be truthful and you will be saved (asbir tu'jar, asdiq tanaj)." He said: The etching on the ring of Sulayman (as) was: "Glorified is He who reined in the Jinn with His words (subhana man alham al-jinn bikalimatih)." The etching on the ring of `Isa (as) was two phrases taken from the Gospel: "Blessed is the servant who remembers Allah for his own sake, and woe is the servant who forgets Allah for his own sake (tuba li `abdin dhakarallah min ajlihi, wa waylun li `abdin nasiyallah min ajlih)." The etching on the ring of Muhammad (s) was: "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (la ilaha illallah, muhammadan rasulullah)." The etching on the ring of Amir al-Mu'minin (as) was: "Rulership is for Allah (al-mulk lillah)." The etching on the ring of al-Hasan (as) was: "Glory is for Allah (al-`izzatu lillah)." The etching on the ring of al-Husayn (as) was: "Surely, Allah will fulfill His will (innallaha balighu amrih)." `Ali b. al-Husayn (as) would wear the ring of his father al-Husayn (as). Muhammad b. `Ali (as) would wear the ring of al-Husayn (as). The etching on the ring of Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) was: "Allah is my Guardian and my protection from His creation (Allahu waliyi wa `ismati min khalqih)." The etching on the ring of my father Abi'l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far (as) was: "Allah is sufficient for me (hasbiallah)." Al-Husayn b. Khalid said: Then, Abu'l Hasan al-Rida (as) opened his hand, and he was wearing the ring of his father (as) on his finger, and he showed me the etching.
