Punishments

Punishment of those who martyred Imam Husain (a.s.)

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یَحْیَی الْعَطَّارُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ زِیَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْحَلَبِیِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ آلَ أَبِی سُفْیَانَ قَتَلُوا الْحُسَیْنَ بْنَ عَلِیٍّ ع فَنَزَعَ اللَّهُ مُلْکَهُمْ وَ قَتَلَ هِشَامٌ زَیْدَ بْنَ عَلِیٍّ فَنَزَعَ اللَّهُ مُلْکَهُ وَ قَتَلَ الْوَلِیدُ یَحْیَی بْنَ زَیْدٍ فَنَزَعَ اللَّهُ مُلْکَهُ عَلَی قَتْلِ ذُرِّیَّهِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص.

11. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said that indeed when the progeny of Abu Sufyan martyred Imam Husain (a.s.), the Almighty Allah snatched their power from them. When Hisham martyred Zaid bin Ali, Allah took away power from him also. Similarly when Walid martyred Yahya bin Zaid, the Almighty Allah took away his power as punishment.

Punishments

Punishment of oppression, breaking relations, false testimony and fornication

1. حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْیَرِیُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ عَطِیَّهَ عَنْ أَبِی عُبَیْدَهَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ فِی کِتَابِ عَلِیٍّ ع ثَلَاثُ خِصَالٍ لَا یَمُوتُ صَاحِبُهُنَّ أَبَداً حَتَّی یَرَی وَبَالَهُنَّ الْبَغْیُ وَ قَطِیعَهُ الرَّحِمِ وَ الْیَمِینُ الْکَاذِبَهُ یُبَادِرُ اللَّهُ بِهَا.

1. Narrated to me Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Mutawakkil: He said, narrated to me Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Himyari, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Malik ibn Atiyyah, from Abu Ubaydah al-Hudhayfa, from Abu Ja'far (a.s) says: "[It has been mentioned] in the book of 'Ali (a.s) three qualities, whoever has them will not die until he sees its bad consequences. They are oppression, breaking relations, and false testimony, for which Allah will promptly hold the individual accountable."

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِیلَ الْمِیثَمِیِّ عَنْ بَشِیرٍ الدَّهَّانِ عَمَّنْ ذَکَرَهُ عَنْ مِیثَمٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ لَا أُنِیلُ رَحْمَتِی مَنْ تَعَرَّضَ الأیمان [لِلْأَیْمَانِ] الْکَاذِبَهِ وَ لَا أُدْنِی مِنِّی مَنْ کَانَ زَانِیاً.

2. The Almighty Allah says: “My mercy will not reach one who testifies falsely and a fornicator will not come near Me on the Day of Judgment.”

Punishments

Punishment of manslaughter, drinking wine and slandering

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَمِّی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِی الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْکُوفِیِّ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ السندوسی [السَّدُوسِیِ] عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ غَالِبٍ الْبَصْرِیِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: لَا یَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّهَ سَفَّاکُ الدِّمَاءِ وَ لَا مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ وَ لَا ماشیا [مَاشٍ] بِنَمِیمٍ.

1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali Majluwayh who said it was narrated to me by my uncle Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim from Muhammad b. Ali al-Kufi from Uthman b. Affan al-Sandusi [al-Sadusi] from Ali b. Ghalib al-Basri from a man from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “A murderer, a drunkard and a slanderer will not be able to enter Paradise.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عِیسَی عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ زَیْدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ عَلِیٌّ ع تَحْرُمُ الْجَنَّهُ عَلَی ثَلَاثَهٍ النَّمَّامِ وَ الْقَتَّالِ وَ مُدْمِنِ الْخَمْرِ.

2. Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.) narrates from Imam Husain (a.s.) that Amirul Momineen (a.s.) said, “Paradise is prohibited for three types of people – a slanderer, a murderer and a drunkard.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عِدَّهٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ مُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: حُرِّمَتِ الْجَنَّهُ عَلَی النَّمَّامِ وَ مُدْمِنِ الْخَمْرِ وَ الدَّیُّوثِ وَ هُوَ الْفَاجِرُ.

3. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah who said it was narrated to me by a number of our companions from Ali b. Asbat from Ali b. Ja’far from Abi al-Hassan Musa b. Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “Paradise is prohibited for three kinds of people – a slanderer, a drunkard and a sinner.”

Punishments

World is house of punishment

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عنْ سُلَیْمِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِیَاثٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قَالَ فِی مُنَاجَاتِهِ لِمُوسَی ع إِنَّ الدُّنْیَا دَارُ عُقُوبَهٍ عَاقَبْتُ فِیهَا آدَمَ عِنْدَ خَطِیئَتِهِ وَ جَعَلْتُهَا مَلْعُونَهً مَلْعُونٌ مَا فِیهَا إِلَّا مَا کَانَ فِیهَا لِی یَا مُوسَی إِنَّ عِبَادِیَ الصَّالِحِینَ زَهِدُوا فِیهَا بِقَدْرِ عِلْمِهِمْ بِی وَ سَائِرَهُمْ مِنْ خَلْقِی رَغِبُوا فِیهَا بِقَدْرِ جَهْلِهِمْ بِی وَ مَا مِنْ خَلْقِی أَحَدٌ عَظَّمَهَا فَقَرَّتْ عَیْنُهُ وَ مَا یُحَقِّرُهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا انْتَفَعَ بِهَا.

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates that the Almighty Allah told Prophet Musa (a.s.), “O Musa! This world is a house of punishment. When Adam committed a Tark-e-Awla (leaving a recommended deed), he was sent to this world in return. Whenever a person commits mistake, he is punished in this world. This world is cursed along with all the things present in it except for what is done for Me, the Lord. O Musa, My virtuous servants keep away from this world as much knowledge as they have. And others who are ignorant of Me, chase this world. The eyes of none of My creatures who consider this world great could get peace, while those who considered this world unworthy could get heaps of benefits.”

Punishment of Bigotry

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ وَ دُرُسْتَ بْنِ أَبِی مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص مَنْ یَغْضَبُ أَوْ یُغْضَبُ لَهُ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَ الْإِسْلَامِ [الْإِیمَانِ] مِنْ عُنُقِهِ.

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Those who are biased have removed the necklace of Islam from their necks and thrown it away.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِیدِ النَّخَعِیِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ یَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ یَغْضَبُ أَوْ یُغْضَبُ لَهُ خَلَعَ رِبْقَهَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ.

2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Ya’qub b. Yazid from Safwan from Abdillah b. al-Waleed Nakha’i from Abdillah b. Ya’qub from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “Those who are biased have removed the necklace of Islam from their necks and thrown it away.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ خَضِرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ یَغْضَبُ غَضْبَهً عَمَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِعِمَامَهٍ مِنْ نَارٍ.

3. And from the previous chain from Safwan from Khidhr from Muhammad b. Muslim from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “The head of a bigot will be covered with fire by Allah.”
