Reward of humility
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَهَ بْنِ صَدَقَهَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ ع أَنَّ عَلِیّاً ع قَالَ: مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ وُلْدِ آدَمَ إِلَّا وَ نَاصِیَتُهُ بِیَدِ مَلَکٍ فَإِنْ تَکَبَّرَ جَذَبَهُ بِنَاصِیَتِهِ إِلَی الْأَرْضِ وَ قَالَ لَهُ تَوَاضَعْ وَضَعَکَ اللَّهُ وَ إِنْ تَوَاضَعَ جَذَبَهُ بِنَاصِیَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ ارْفَعْ رَأْسَکَ رَفَعَکَ اللَّهُ وَ لَا وَضَعَکَ بِتَوَاضُعِکَ لِلَّهِ.
1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali Majluwayh from his uncle Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim from Harun b. Muslim from Mas’ada b. Sadaqah from Ja’far b. Muhammad from his father (a.s.) that Ali (a.s.) who said: Keep your head up. There is a lot of honor for you near Allah and you won’t be disgraced due to your humility.”
Rewards
Reward of crying out of fear of Allah, keeping away from what He has prohibited and remaining awake at night in the way of Allah
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَهِ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص کُلُّ عَیْنٍ بَاکِیَهٌ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَهِ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَهَ أَعْیُنٍ عَیْنٌ بَکَتْ مِنْ خَشْیَهِ اللَّهِ وَ عَیْنٌ بَاتَتْ سَاهِرَهً فِی سَبِیلِ اللَّهِ وَ عَیْنٌ غُضَّتْ عَنْ مَحَارِمِ اللَّهِ وَ قَالَ ص طُوبَی لِصُورَهٍ نَظَرَ اللَّهُ إِلَیْهَا تَبْکِی عَلَی ذَنْبٍ مِنْ خَشْیَهِ اللَّهِ لَمْ یَطَّلِعْ عَلَی ذَلِکَ الذَّنْبِ غَیْرُهُ.
1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “All the eyes will cry on the Day of Judgment except three – an eye which cried out of fear of Allah, an eye which remained awake for the sake of Allah and an eye which refrained from seeing what Allah has prohibited.” The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Tooba (Congratulations) be for the face to look at which is so nice whose eyes are weeping over sins committed by him that are not known to anyone.”
Rewards
Reward of avoiding lust today for the sake of those promised things which are unseen
حَدَّثَنِی جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْکُوفِیُّ عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَهِ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنْ أَمِیرِ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص طُوبَی لِمَنْ تَرَکَ شَهْوَهً حَاضِرَهً لِمَوْعُودٍ لَمْ یَرَهُ.
1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Tooba (Congratulations) be for one who avoids lust today for the sake of those promised things he has not seen.”
Rewards
Reward of loving, building mosques and repenting at dawn for the sake of Allah
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ الْحُسَیْنِ الْکُوفِیُّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِیرَهِ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ یُصِیبَ أَهْلَ الْأَرْضِ بِعَذَابٍ یَقُولُ لَوْ لَا الَّذِینَ یَتَحَابُّونَ فِیَّ وَ یَعْمُرُونَ مَسَاجِدِی وَ یَسْتَغْفِرُونَ بِالْأَسْحَارِ لَوْلَاهُمْ لَأَنْزَلْتُ عَلَیْهِمْ عَذَابِی.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Ali b. al-Hussain al-Kufi from his father from Abdillah b. al-Mughira from al-Sakuni from Ja’far b. Muhammad from his forefathers (a.s.) who said: “But for those who love each other, build mosques and repent at dawn, I would surely have chastised the people of the earth.”
Rewards
Reward of that person whose seeing is a lesson, silence is thought, conversation is remembrance of Allah, who weeps over his sins and from whom people remain safe
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ یُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِی أَیُّوبَ الْحَرَّانِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی حَمْزَهَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ قَالَ أَمِیرُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ ع جُمِعَ الْخَیْرُ کُلُّهُ فِی ثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ النَّظَرِ وَ السُّکُوتِ وَ الْکَلَامِ- وَ کُلُّ نَظَرٍ لَیْسَ فِیهِ اعْتِبَارٌ فَهُوَ سَهْوٌ وَ کُلُّ سُکُوتٍ لَیْسَ فِیهِ فِکْرٌ فَهُوَ غَفْلَهٌ وَ کُلُّ کَلَامٍ لَیْسَ فِیهِ ذِکْرٌ فَهُوَ لَغْوٌ طُوبَی لِمَنْ کَانَ نَظَرُهُ عِبْرَهً وَ سُکُوتُهُ فکر [فِکْرَهً] وَ کَلَامُهُ ذکر [ذِکْراً] وَ بَکَی عَلَی خَطِیئَتِهِ وَ أَمِنَ النَّاسُ شَرَّهُ.
1. Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) narrates that Amirul Momineen (a.s.) said, “All the good deeds are hidden in three qualities – seeing, silence and speech. One who’s seeing is not a lesson is useless. One who is not a fountain of silence and deep thought is ignorant. One whose speech is not the remembrance of Allah is worthless. A person whose seeing is a lesson, silence is thought, conversation is remembrance of Allah, who cries over his sins and from whom people remain safe, is indeed fortunate (there is Tooba for him).”
Rewards
Reward of silence and going to the house of Allah on foot
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَیُّوبَ بْنِ نُوحٍ عَنِ الرَّبِیعِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ السُّلَمِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَا عُبِدَ اللَّهُ بِشَیْ ءٍ مِثْلِ الصَّمْتِ وَ الْمَشْیِ إِلَی بَیْتِ اللَّهِ.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ayoob’ b. Nuh from al-Rabee’ b. Muhammad al-Sulami from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “There is nothing among the worship of Allah better than silence and going to the house of Allah walking.”
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ یَحْیَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَهْزِیَارَ یَرْفَعُهُ قَالَ: یَأْتِی عَلَی النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ یَکُونُ الْعَافِیَهُ عَشَرَهَ أَجْزَاءٍ تِسْعَهٌ مِنْهَا اعْتِزَالُ النَّاسِ وَ وَاحِدٌ فِی الصَّمْتِ.
2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan from Muhammad b. Yahya from Muhammad b. Ahmad from al-Abbas b. Ma’ruf from Ali b. Mahziyar who raised it to who said: “Soon a time will come when good things will rest on only ten things. Nine of them are keeping away from people and one is keeping silent.”
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یَحْیَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ رِجَالِهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: لَا یَزَالُ الرَّجُلُ الْمُسْلِمُ یُکْتَبُ مُحْسِناً مَا دَامَ سَاکِتاً فَإِذَا تَکَلَّمَ کُتِبَ إِمَّا مُحْسِناً أَوْ مُسِیئاً.
3. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to us by Muhammad b. Yahya from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Musa b. ’Amru from Ali b. al-Hussain b. Ribat from some of his men from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “Good deeds are written for a Muslim till he is silent. As soon as he speaks, either a good deed or a sin is written down for him.”
Rewards
Reward of patching clothes and shoes and carrying one’s own luggage
أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِیسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی نَجْرَانَ یَرْفَعُهُ إِلَی أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ رَقَعَ جَیْبَهُ وَ خَصَفَ نَعْلَهُ وَ حَمَلَ سِلْعَتَهُ فَقَدْ بَرِئَ مِنَ الْکِبْرِ.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Ahmad b. Idris from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Ya’qub b. Yazid from Ibn Abi Najran who raised it to Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “One who patches his clothes, stitches his shoes and carries his own luggage will remain away from pride.”
Rewards
Reward of speaking truth
حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ یَحْیَی الْعَطَّارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع یَقُولُ إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا صَدَقَ کَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ یُصَدِّقُهُ اللَّهُ وَ نَفْسُهُ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ صَادِقٌ وَ إِذَا کَذَبَ کَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ یُکَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ وَ نَفْسُهُ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ کَاذِبٌ.
1. It is narrated that Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “One who speaks truth, first Allah testifies to his words and he considers himself truthful. One who lies, first Allah falsifies his words and that person himself knows that he is a liar.”
