5. Ḥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ibrāhīm ibn Abil Bilād, who said: Abul Ḥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) asked me, “What do you recite in your salutation to the Prophet (s.a.a.w.)?” I replied, “I recite that which is known and (commonly) narrated.” Imam (a.s.) asked, “Should I not teach you something that is better than that which you recite?” I replied, “Yes. May I sacrifice myself for you.” As I was sitting there, Imam (a.s.) wrote the following with his own hands for me, and he also read it to me: When you are standing next to his (the Prophet’s (s.a.a.w.)) grave, recite (the following): (s.a.a.w.) I testify that there is no god but Allāh; He is alone and He has no partners, and I testify that Muḥammad (s.a.a.w.) is His slave and messenger. I testify that you are Muḥammad, son of ‘Abdillāh, and that you are the last of the prophets. I testify that you announced the messages of your Lord, you advised your nation, you fought in the way of your Lord, and you worshipped Him until that which is certain (death) came to you. And you fulfilled your obligations. O Allāh! Send Your blessing on Muḥammad, Your slave, Your messenger, Your confidant, Your trustee, Your chosen one, and the best of Your creation, (blessings which are) greater than any of the blessings You have sent on any of Your prophets or messengers. O Allāh! Send (Your) Salām on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad just as You sent Your Salām on Nūḥ “among the worlds.” Bestow Your favour on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad just as You bestowed Your favour “on Mūsā and Hārūn.” And bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad just as You blessed Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm. Verily You are the Praised, the Glorified. O Allāh! Send blessing on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad and have mercy on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad. . O Allāh! O Lord of the Sacred House! O Lord of the Sacred Mosque! O Lord of RUKN and MAQĀM! O Lord of the Sacred Land! O Lord of the lawful and the unlawful! O Lord of MASH’AR AL-ḤARĀM! Send my Salām to the soul of Muḥammad, Your Prophet.

6. Muḥammad ibn Ya’qūb Al-Kulayni narrated to me from a group of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyād, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Nasr, who said: I asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā (a.s.)), “How should I say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) next to his grave?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Salām upon the Messenger of Allāh. Salām to you, O love of Allāh! Salām to you, O choice of Allāh! Salām to you, O trustee of Allāh! I testify that you advised your nation. You fought in the way of Allāh and worshipped Him with loyalty until that which is certain (death) came to you. May Allāh reward you with a greater reward than He has given to any (other) prophet for guiding his nation. O Allāh! Send (Your) blessing on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad, (blessings which are) greater than that which You sent on Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm. Verily You are the Praised, the Glorified.

7. Muḥammad ibn Ya’qūb Al-Kulayni narrated to me from a group of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyād, from ‘Ali ibn Ḥassān, from one of our companions, who said: I saw Abal Ḥasan the First (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)), Hārūn the (Abbasid) caliph, ‘Isā ibn Ja’far, and Ja’far ibn Yaḥyā all in Madīnah next to the grave of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.). Hārūn said to Imam Kāżim (a.s.), “Go ahead (and say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.)).” However, Imam (a.s.) refused. So Hārūn went ahead and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and then moved aside. Then ‘Isā ibn Ja’far asked Imam (a.s.) to go ahead and say Salām to the Prophet (s.a.a.w.). However, Imam (a.s.) refused. So ‘Isā moved forward and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and then moved aside and stood with Hārūn. Then Ja’far ibn Yaḥyā asked Imam (a.s.) to go ahead and say Salām to the Prophet (s.a.a.w.). However, Imam (a.s.) refused. So Ja’far moved forward and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and then he also moved aside and stood with Hārūn. Then Abul Ḥasan (a.s.) moved forward and said: Salam to you, O father! I ask Allāh who selected you, chose you, guided you, and guided (the creation) through you, to send His blessing on you. So Hārūn said to ‘Isā, “Did you hear what he said?” “Yes,” ‘Isā replied. “I testify that he (the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.)) is truly his father,” Hārūn said.
8. Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain Al-‘Alawi son of ‘Ali ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali ibn Abī Ťālib, from ‘Ali ibn Ja’far, from his brother Mūsā ibn Ja’far (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)), from his father (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), who said: His father (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: My father, ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain (Imam Sajjād (a.s.)), used to stand next to the grave of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.) and say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and testify that he announced the message of Allāh. Then he used to recite any prayer that would come to his mind. Thereafter, he would lean his back on the very delicate green marble that is attached to the grave of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.). He would lean his back on the grave and face the Qiblah, and say: O Allāh! I seek refuge with You in (all of) my affairs and I have leaned my back on the grave of Muḥammad, Your slave and Your messenger, and I have turned my face toward the Qiblah that You chose for Muḥammad. O Allāh! I find that I do not have the power to attain the good that I desire for myself, nor do I have the power to avert the harm I fear. (O Allāh!) I find that all affairs are in Your hands and that there is no one more needy than I. I am in need of the good that You have given me. O Allāh! I ask You to decree that which is good for me because no one can keep away Your grace. O Allāh! I seek refuge with You from replacing my name, from changing my body, or from removing Your blessing from me. O Allāh! Adorn me with piety and beautify me with Your blessings. Give me a long, healthy life and sustain me with the ability to thank You for good health.

1. My father and Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad ibn Walīd both narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Aḥmad ibn Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Faďďāl, from ‘Amr ibn Sa’īd, from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah, from ‘Ammār ibn Mūsā Al-Sābāťi, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “Is praying in the Mosque of the Prophet (s.a.a.w.) the same as praying anywhere else in Madīnah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “No. One Salāt (prayer) in the Mosque of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) is equal to one thousand prayers elsewhere. However, praying anywhere else in Madīnah is just like praying in any other city.”
2. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Abī Khalaf Al-Qummi Al-Ash’ari, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Mūsā ibn Qāsim Al-Bajali, from someone who narrated to him, from Murāzim, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about praying in the Mosque of the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.). Imam (a.s.) replied: The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) has said: One Salāt in my mosque is equal to one thousand prayers elsewhere, and one Salāt in MASJID AL-ḤARĀM is equal to one thousand prayers in my mosque. Then Imam (a.s.) continued: Verily Allāh has given preference to Makkah over other cities, and He has given preference to (specific) areas (of Makkah) over other areas in it by saying, “Take for yourselves a place of prayer on the standing-place of Ibrāhīm” (2:125). Allāh has also given preference to some people over others, and in His Book He has ordered people to follow them and to love them.
