The Reward for Those Who Go to the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.) Yearning for Him
2. It is narrated from Abī Basīr, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Those who want their destination and abode to be Paradise should not neglect going to the Ziyārah of the oppressed one. I asked, “Who is the oppressed one?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.), the man of Karbalā. Allah will make those who go to his Ziyārah yearning for him and with love for the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.), love for the Commander of the Believers (a.s.), and love for Fāťimah (s.a.), sit at the Mawā`id of Paradise. They will be eating with them while others are undergoing the process of Judgment. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through someone who narrated from Abī Basīr, from Abī ‘Abdillāh and Abī Ja’far (a.s.).

3. Ḥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh narrated to me from his father (‘Abdillāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā Al-Ash’ari), from Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from ‘Alā ibn Razīn, from Muḥammad ibn Muslim, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said, “If people knew the reward for going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.), their souls would leave their bodies out of remorse and they would die yearning for it.” I asked, “What is the reward for going to his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Allāh will register the reward of one thousand accepted Hajj, one thousand purified ‘Umrah, one thousand martyrs from among the martyrs of (the Battle of) Badr, fasting of one thousand people, one thousand accepted SADAQAH, and the reward of freeing one thousand slaves in the way of Allāh for he who goes to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) yearning for him. He will be protected for one year from every plague, the least evil of which is Shayťān. And Allāh will dedicate an honourable angel to him who will protect him from the front, from behind, from the right side, from the left side, from over his head, and from under his feet. If he dies in that year, the angels of mercy will attend (the rituals of) his ablution and shrouding and they will seek forgiveness for him. They will also follow him in his funeral while seeking forgiveness for him. His grave will be widened as far as he can see and Allāh will keep him safe from the pressure of the grave and from being frightened by (angels) Munkar and Nakīr. A door will also be opened from his grave to Paradise. On the Day of Judgment, his book (of deeds) will be placed in his right hand and he will shine with a light which illuminates everywhere from the east to the west. (On that day), a caller will call out, “This is a person who went to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) yearning for him.” Therefore, no one will remain on the Day of Judgment who will not wish he had gone to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.).
4. Ḥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh narrated to me from his father, from Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from Abī Ayyūb Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Uthmān Al-Khazzāz, from Muḥammad ibn Muslim, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “What is the reward for those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Those who go to his Ziyārah yearning for him will be among Allāh’s (most) honourable slaves. (On the Day of Judgment) they will be under the flag of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) until Allāh takes them to Paradise with Ḥusain (a.s.).”
5. Ḥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh narrated to me from his father, from Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from Abil Maghrā, from Dharīḥ Al-Muḥāribi, who said: I complained to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) about the way in which I suffer when I tell my kindred and my children about the reward for going to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.). (I complained) that they call me a liar, accusing me of forging lies against Ja’far ibn Muḥammad (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) replied: O Dharīḥ! Let the people go wherever they want! I swear to Allāh that Allāh boasts about those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) to the high-ranked angels and to the carriers of His Throne who welcome those who arrive (at the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.)). Verily, He says to them: Do you not see the Zuwwār of the grave of Ḥusain who have come to him yearning for him and for Fāťimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allāh?! I swear to My Glory, My Magnificence, and to My Greatness that I will ordain that they be honoured. I will take them to My Paradise, the Paradise which I have prepared for My friends, prophets, and messengers. O My angels! These are the Zuwwār of Ḥusain – the love of Muḥammad, My Messenger, and Muḥammad is My love. Those who love Me, love the one whom I love, and those who love the one whom I love, love the one loved by him (referring to Imam Ḥusain (a.s.)). Those who hate My love, hate Me. It is My right to torment those who hate Me with My most intense of chastisements, to burn them with the blazing flames of My fire, and to make Hell their abode and their final destination where I will torment them with such an intense chastisement with which I will not torment anyone else.

(They will be purified completely) and no impurity will remain on them. With every step they take, a Hajj will be registered for them, and every time they raise their foot (to take a step), an ‘Umrah will be registered for them.

What is the reward for those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) knowing his rights, seeking nearness with Allāh, the Exalted, and hoping for (the blessings of) the Hereafter?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “O Hārūn! I swear to Allāh that Allāh will forgive all of the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain (a.s.) knowing his rights, seeking nearness with Allāh, and hoping for (the blessings of) the Hereafter.” Then Imam (a.s.) added, “Did I not swear to Allāh for you?! And (even) if they are among the wretched ones, they will be registered among the blissful ones and they will be continuously submerged in the Mercy of Allāh.”

They asked him about going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) and its rewards. Imam (a.s.) said: My father (a.s.) narrated to me that my grandfather (Imam Sajjād (a.s.)) used to say: Allāh will erase the sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of Ḥusain (a.s.) for the sake of (pleasing) Allāh. They will be sinless like a newborn baby. Angels will accompany them on their way (to the Ziyārah) and they will flap and spread their wings over them until they return to their families. Angels will seek forgiveness for them from their Lord and call out to them, “You have been blessed and blessed is the one to whose Ziyārah you have come.” They will be covered by Mercy from the heavens and their families will be protected for them.
6. ‘Ubaydullāḥ ibn Faďl ibn Muḥammad ibn Hilāl narrated to me from ‘Abdil Raḥmān, from Sa’īd ibn Khaytham, from his brother Mu’ammar, who said: I heard Zayd ibn ‘Ali say: Allāh will forgive all of the sins of those who go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) seeking nothing but nearness to Allāh, the Exalted, even if their sins are as great as the scum (found) in the sea. Therefore, you should go to his Ziyārah increasingly so that Allāh may forgive your sins.
