3. Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ḥimyari narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Muḥammad ibn Sālim, from Muḥammad ibn Khālid, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ḥammād Al-Basri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Abdil Raḥmān Al-Asam, from Hishām ibn Sālim, who said: A man came to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) and asked, “O son of the Messenger of Allāh! Should one go to the Ziyārah of your father?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes and establish prayers next to his grave. But one should not pray in front of the grave, but rather, should stand behind it when establishing prayers.” The man asked, “What is the reward for those who go to his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Paradise, (but only) if they believe in his Imamate.” The man asked, “What about those who neglect his Ziyārah intentionally?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “(They will) regret (it) on the Day of Regret.” The man asked, “What about those who stay (a few days) by his grave?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Every day will be equal to one thousand months (of worship).” The man asked, “What about those who spend money while traveling to his Ziyārah and who give charity near his grave?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Every Dirham is equal to one thousand Dirhams.”

4. Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ḥimyari narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Muḥammad ibn Sālim, from Muḥammad ibn Khālid, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ḥammād Al-Basri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Abdil Raḥmān Al-Asam, from Ibn Sinān, who said: I said to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)): May I sacrifice myself for you! Your father (a.s.) used to say that those who spend money going to Hajj will be recompensed with one thousand Dirhams for every Dirham they spent. Therefore, what is the reward for those who spend money traveling to your father, Ḥusain (a.s.)? Imam (a.s.) replied: O son of Sinān! For every Dirham they spend, they will be recompensed with one thousand plus one thousand plus… Dirhams – and he repeated that ten times. Furthermore, their status will be elevated to the same degree. However, they will benefit even more (handsomely) from the pleasure of Allāh and the praying of Muḥammad (s.a.a.w.), the Commander of the Believers (a.s.), and the Imams (a.s.) (because of their Ziyārah).

5. My father narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, and from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali, from Yaḥyā – the servant of Abī Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), from ‘Ali, from Safwān Al-Jammāl, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) – as part of a longer Ḥadīth, – “What is the reward for those who establish prayers next to him – referring to Ḥusain (a.s.)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Those who establish two Rak’ah of prayers next to him will not ask anything from Allāh, the Exalted, without Allāh granting it.” I asked, “What about those who perform Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) and then go to him?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “If they perform Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) with the intention of going to him, their sins will fall off of them (and they will become sinless) like the day their mothers gave birth to them.” I asked, “What about those who make arrangements for others to go but they do not go themselves because of being ill?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Allāh will recompense them for every Dirham that they have spent (making the arrangement for others) with rewards as great as the mountain of Uḥud and will sustain them with multiple amounts. Furthermore, the afflictions which had been destined for them will be pushed away and their wealth will be protected.

Verily if they had gone to the graves of their loved ones, they would not have taken any of these (things) with them.

(However, sometimes) not going to (his) Ziyārah is better than going.” I said, “You broke my back!!!” Imam (a.s.) said: By Allāh! When you people go to the graves of your fathers you are anguished and grieved. However, when you go to him (Ḥusain (a.s.)) you carry different kinds of food with you. No! (It is better not to go to him) unless you go disheveled and covered with dust.

Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ḥimyari narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Muḥammad ibn Sālim, from Muḥammad ibn Khālid, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ḥammād Al-Basri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Abdil Raḥmān Al-Asam, from Mudlij, from Muḥammad ibn Muslim, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)), “When we go to the Ziyārah of your father (Ḥusain (a.s.)), are we in Hajj?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes.” I asked, “Then does that which applies to those who go for Hajj apply to us?” Imam (a.s.) asked, “To what are you referring?” I replied, “The behavior of those who go for Hajj” Imam (a.s.) said: You should be a good companion to those who accompany you, speak less and say only that which is good, mention Allāh increasingly, wear purified clothes, perform Ghusl before going to the Ḥā`ir, be humble, increasingly establish prayers, send blessings on Muḥammad and his family, be honourable by not taking that which does not belong to you, not look (at that which is not permitted), help the needy ones from your brothers if you find them helpless, give solace to (your brothers), and act in accordance with Taqiyyah which is the pillar of your religion. You should (also) abstain from that which is forbidden, from fighting, from taking oaths, and from quarrelling which leads to taking oaths. Verily if you follow that (which I mentioned), your Hajj and ‘Umrah will be complete. And (by doing this), you will earn the Forgiveness, the Mercy, and the Pleasure of Allāh, whose blessings you have sought by spending money (during your journey), being away from your family, and by having the desire to go to the Ziyārah (of Ḥusain (a.s.)).

(After you perform your Ziyārah), ask him for your needs and then leave. Do not settle in Karbalā.
