The Watercress
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ الْجِرْجِيرَ بِاللَّيْلِ ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ عِرْقُ الْجُذَامِ مِنْ أَنْفِهِ وَ بَاتَ يُنْزَفُ الدَّمُ .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one eats watercress during the night the vein of leprosy will hit him from his nose and blood will flow thereof.”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الْبَقْلِ الْهِنْدَبَاءِ وَ الْبَاذَرُوجِ وَ الْجِرْجِيرِ فَقَالَ الْهِنْدَبَاءُ وَ وَ الْبَاذَرُوجُ لَنَا وَ الْجِرْجِيرُ لِبَنِي أُمَيَّةَ .
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Musa ibn al-Hassan from Ahmad ibn Sulayman from his father from abu Basir who has said the following: “Once, a man asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about endives, sweet basil and watercress. He (the Imam) said, ‘Endives and sweet basil are for us and watercress is for banu ’Umayyah.’”
عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن نصير مولى أبي عبد الله عليه السلام، عن موفق مولى أبي الحسن عليه السلام قال: كان مولاي أبو الحسن عليه السلام إذا أمر بشراء البقل يأمر بالاكثار منه ومن الجرجير فيشترى له وكان يقول عليه السلام: ما أحمق بعض الناس يقولون إنه ينبت في واد في جهنم والله عز وجل يقول:وقودها الناس والحجارة فكيف تنبت البقل.
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Nusayr Mawla’ abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), from Muwaffaq Mawla’ abu al-Hassan (a.s.), who has said the following: “When my master ordered buying herbs he ordered quite a large amount and also watercress. It then would have been purchased for him and he (the Imam) would say, ‘How dimwitted certain people are when they say that it grows in a valley of hell and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, ‘Its fuel is people and stones’ (2:24); then how can herbs grow therein?”’

The White Beet
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رَفَعَ عَنِ الْيَهُودِ الْجُذَامَ بِأَكْلِهِمُ السِّلْقَ وَ قَلْعِهِمُ الْعُرُوقَ .
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘ Abd Allah from al-Hassan ibn Ali from abu ‘Uthman in a marfu ‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, removed leprosy from Jews because of their eating beets and their cutting the veins.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نِعْمَ الْبَقْلَةُ السِّلْقُ .
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid from Safwan ibn Yahya who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘The white beet is a very good vegetable.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ أَبِي الْوَرْدِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ شَكَوْا إِلَى مُوسَى ( عليه السلام ) مَا يَلْقَوْنَ مِنَ الْبَيَاضِ فَشَكَا ذَلِكَ إِلَى اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ مُرْهُمْ بِأَكْلِ لَحْمِ الْبَقَرِ بِالسِّلْقِ .
3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ali ibn al-Hassan al-Tamimiy from Sulayman ibn ‘Abbad from ‘Isa ibn abu al-Ward from Muhammad ibn Qays who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that banu Israel complained before Musa (a.s.), because of whiteness (albinism ) they experienced and he complained about it before Allah, most Blessed, most High. Allah sent him revelation that said, ‘Command them to eat cow meat with beets.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَطْعِمُوا مَرْضَاكُمُ السِّلْقَ يَعْنِي وَرَقَهُ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ شِفَاءً وَ لَا دَاءَ مَعَهُ وَ لَا غَائِلَةَ لَهُ وَ يُهْدِئُ نَوْمَ الْمَرِيضِ وَ اجْتَنِبُوا أَصْلَهُ فَإِنَّهُ يُهَيِّجُ السَّوْدَاءَ .
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘Feed your patients beets, the leaves, because there is cure in it without illness or shock and it makes sleep of a patient more relaxing; but abstain from its roots because it stirs up al-Sawada ’ (a certain illness).”’
عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ بَعْضِ الْحُصَيْنِيِّينَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنّ�� السِّلْقَ يَقْمَعُ عِرْقَ الْجُذَامِ وَ مَا دَخَلَ جَوْفَ الْمُبَرْسَمِ مِثْلُ وَرَقِ السِّلْقِ .
5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from certain al-Husayniyin who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘Beets uproot the vein of leprosy and no other thing is as beneficial as leaves of beets that enter the belly of one suffering from leprosy.’”

The Truffle
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أُمَامَةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ وَ أُمُّهَا زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قَالَتْ أَتَانِي أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيٌّ ( عليه السلام ) فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَأُتِيَ بِعَشَاءٍ وَ تَمْرٍ وَ كَمْأَةٍ فَأَكَلَ ( عليه السلام ) وَ كَانَ يُحِبُّ الْكَمْأَةَ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from abu Basir from Fatimah daughter Ali from ’Umamah daughter of abu al-‘Ass ibn al-Rabi‘ and her mother, Zaynab daughter the Messenger of Allah who has said the following: “Once ’Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), in the month of Ramadan came to me. For dinner, he brought dates and truffles. He (the Imam) ate it and he liked truffles.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْكَمْأَةُ مِنَ الْمَنِّ وَ الْمَنُّ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَ مَاؤُهَا شِفَاءٌ لِلْعَيْنِ .
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The truffle is from Manna (honeydew, a kind of tree sap) which is from paradise and its water is cure for the eye.’”
