The Pear

1481. hadíth Majlisī: مرسل

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الْكُمَّثْرَى يَدْبُغُ الْمَعِدَةَ وَ يُقَوِّيهَا هُوَ وَ السَّفَرْجَلُ سَوَاءٌ وَ هُوَ عَلَى الشِّبَعِ أَنْفَعُ مِنْهُ عَلَى الرِّيقِ وَ مَنْ أَصَابَهُ طَخَاءٌ فَلْيَأْكُلْهُ يَعْنِي عَلَى الطَّعَامِ .

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al- Washsha’ from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Pears tan (cleanses) the stomach and makes it strong. Pears and quince are the same. On a full stomach, it is more beneficial than before breakfast. If one feels depression and sadness in his heart he should eat pears after food.’”

The Rowan, Mountain Ash

1482. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ الْغُبَيْرَاءُ لَحْمُهُ يُنْبِتُ اللَّحْمَ وَ عَظْمُهُ يُنْبِتُ الْعَظْمَ وَ جِلْدُهُ يُنْبِتُ الْجِلْدَ وَ مَعَ ذَلِكَ [فَإِنَّهُ] يُسَخِّنُ الْكُلْيَتَيْنِ وَ يَدْبُغُ الْمَعِدَةَ وَ هُوَ أَمَانٌ مِنَ الْبَوَاسِيرِ وَ التَّقْتِيرِ وَ يُقَوِّي السَّاقَيْنِ وَ يَقْمَعُ عِرْقَ الْجُذَامِ .

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from his father from ibn Bukayr who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘The flesh of Rowan, mountain ash berry grows flesh, its bones grow bones and its peels grow skin, besides it warms up kidneys, tans (cleanses) the stomach and it is protection against hemorrhoid and al-Taqtir (intense anger, stint). It brings firmness to the legs and uproots the vein of leprosy.”’

The Melons

1483. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ يَاسِرٍ الْخَادِمِ عَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الْبِطِّيخُ عَلَى الرِّيقِ يُورِثُ الْفَالِجَ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْهُ .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Yasar al-Khadim who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ’Eating melons before breakfast causes paralysis, may Allah grant us protection against it!”’

1484. hadíth Majlisī: مرسل

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَأْكُلُ الرُّطَبَ بِالْخِرْبِزِ .

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from certain persons of his people who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would eat fresh dates with melons.’”

1485. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف على المشهور

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَأْكُلُ الْبِطِّيخَ بِالتَّمْرِ .

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would eat melons with dates.’”

1486. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف على المشهور

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يُعْجِبُهُ الرُّطَبُ بِالْخِرْبِزِ .

4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked fresh dates with melons.’”

1487. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْبِطِّيخَ بِالسُّكَّرِ وَ أَكَلَ الْبِطِّيخَ بِالرُّطَبِ .

5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Awwal (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, ate melons with sugar. He (the Messenger of Allah) ate melons with fresh dates.’”

The Herbs

1488. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هَارُونَ عَنْ مُوَفَّقٍ الْمَدِينِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ الْمَاضِي ( عليه السلام ) يَوْماً فَأَجْلَسَنِي لِلْغَدَاءِ فَلَمَّا جَاءُوا بِالْمَائِدَةِ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا بَقْلٌ فَأَمْسَكَ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلْغُلَامِ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنِّي لَا آكُلُ عَلَى مَائِدَةٍ لَيْسَ فِيهَا خُضْرَةٌ فَأْتِنِي بِالْخُضْرَةِ قَالَ فَذَهَبَ الْغُلَامُ فَجَاءَ بِالْبَقْلِ فَأَلْقَاهُ عَلَى الْمَائِدَةِ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ ( عليه السلام ) حِينَئِذٍ وَ أَكَلَ .

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Harun from Muwaffaq al-Madiniy from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Madiy (a.s.), once sent for me and he made me to stay for lunch. When they brought the table-spread with food there were no herbs in it. He (the Imam) held his hand and said to the boy, ’Did you not know that I do not eat until there are green herbs on the table-spread, so bring for me fresh herbs. 5 The boy went, brought fresh herbs and placed it on the table-spread then he (the Imam) extended his hand and ate his lunch.’”

1489. hadíth Majlisī: حسن أو موثق

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى الْمَائِدَةِ فَمَالَ عَلَى الْبَقْلِ وَ امْتَنَعْتُ أَنَا مِنْهُ لِعِلَّةٍ كَانَتْ بِي فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ يَا حَنَانُ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لَمْ يُؤْتَ بِطَبَقٍ إِلَّا وَ عَلَيْهِ بَقْلٌ قُلْتُ وَ لِمَ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فَقَالَ لِأَنَّ قُلُوبَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ خَضِرَةٌ وَ هِيَ تَحِنُّ إِلَى أَشْكَالِهَا .

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hanan who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), on the table-spread of food and he (the Imam) ate fresh herbs but I abstained because of a certain illness. He (the Imam) turned to me and said, ‘O Hanan, did you not know that whenever a package of food was brought to ’Amir al-Mu’minin it neccessarily had herbs in it?’ I then asked, T pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, why did it have to be as such?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because the hearts of the believers are fresh, green and they incline to what is similar to it.’”

The Endives

1490. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ بَاتَ وَ فِي جَوْفِهِ سَبْعُ طَاقَاتٍ مِنَ الْهِنْدَبَاءِ أَمِنَ مِنَ الْقُولَنْجِ لَيْلَتَهُ تِلْكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ .

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Muthanna’ ibn al-Walid who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’If one goes to sleep with seven leaves of endives in his belly he will remain safe from colic (colitis) pain that night by the will of Allah.’”
