Al-Kāfi

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) أَلْبَانُ الْبَقَرِ دَوَاءٌ .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Milk products from cows are medicine.”’

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي الْبِلَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ شَكَوْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) ذِرْباً وَجَدْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مَا يَمْنَعُكَ مِنْ شُرْبِ أَلْبَانِ الْبَقَرِ فَقَالَ لِي أَ شَرِبْتَهَا قَطُّ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ نَعَمْ مِرَاراً فَقَالَ كَيْفَ وَجَدْتَهَا فَقُلْتُ وَجَدْتُهَا تَدْبُغُ الْمَعِدَةَ وَ تَكْسُو الْكُلْيَتَيْنِ الشَّحْمَ وَ تُشَهِّي الطَّعَامَ فَقَالَ لِي لَوْ كَانَتْ أَيَّامُهُ لَخَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَ أَنْتَ إِلَى يَنْبُعَ حَتَّى نَشْرَبَهُ .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from Yahya ibn Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad, from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “I once complained before abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about stomach trouble and he (the Imam) said, ‘What prevents you from drinking cow milk, have you ever drank it before?’ I replied, ‘Yes, many times.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘How did you find it?’ I replied, ‘It tans the stomach, covers the kidneys with fat and increases one’s appetite for food.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Had it been the right time, you and I could have gone to Yanba’ so we could drink milk.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ( عليهما السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَلَيْكُمْ بِأَلْبَانِ الْبَقَرِ فَإِنَّهَا تُخْلَطُ مَعَ كُلِّ الشَّجَرِ .

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Aban ‘Uthman from Zurarah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must drink cow milk; it mixes with every tree.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ أَرَادَ أَكْلَ الْمَاسْتِ وَ لَا يَضُرُّهُ فَلْيَصُبَّ عَلَيْهِ الْهَاضُومَ قُلْتُ لَهُ وَ مَا الْهَاضُومُ قَالَ النَّانْخَواهُ .

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya in a marfu‘ manner has narrated the following: “Once abu al-Hassan (a.s.), said, ‘If one wants to eat yogurt without harming him, he should pour al-Hadum on it.’ I then asked, ‘What is al-Hadum ?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is al- Nankhoxvah.’”

محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن بكر بن صالح، عن الجعفري قال: سمعت أبا الحسن موسى عليه السلام يقول: أبوال الابل خير من ألبانها، ويجعل الله عزوجل الشفاء في ألبانها.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Bakr ibn Salih from al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al Salam, saying, ‘Urine of camels is better than their milk, and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has placed cure in their milk products.”’

عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن أبي عبدالله، عن نوح بن شعيب، عن بعض أصحابنا، عن موسى بن عبدالله بن الحسين قال: سمعت أشياخنا يقولون: ألبان اللقاح شفاء من كل داء وعاهة، ولصاحب البطن أبوالها.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from certain persons of our people from Musa ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Hassan who has said the following: “I have heard my shaykh’s saying, ‘The milk of camels is a cure for all kinds of illness and defects, and for one’s stomach trouble it is their urine.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعِيصِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ تَغَدَّيْتُ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ لِي أَ تَدْرِي مَا هَذَا قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ هَذَا شِيرَازُ الْأُتُنِ اتَّخَذْنَاهُ لِمَرِيضٍ لَنَا فَإِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ فَكُلْ .

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ibn abu Najran from Safwan ibn Yahya from al-‘Is ibn al-Qasim who has said the following: “I once had lunch with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and he (the Imam) said to me, ‘Do you know what this is?’ I replied, ‘No, I do not know. 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘This is Shiraz al-’Utun (yogurt- water) that we have extracted for one of our patients. If you like to eat you can eat it.’”

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَأُتِينَا بِسُكُرُّجَاتٍ فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ وَ قَالَ هَذَا شِيرَازُ الْأُتُنِ اتَّخَذْنَاهُ لِعَلِيلٍ عِنْدَنَا وَ مَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَ مَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَدَعْ .

2. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Muhammad ibn Khalid from Khalaf ibn Hammad from Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that small bowls were brought and he (the Imam) pointed with his hand toward one of them saying, ‘This is Shiraz al-’Utun which we have extracted for a patient with us. Whoever wants to eat he can eat and whoever does not want can leave it.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عِيصِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ شُرْبِ أَلْبَانِ الْأُتُنِ فَقَالَ اشْرَبْهَا .

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Is ibn al-Qasim who has said the following ‘I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about drinking yogurt water. He (the Imam) said, ‘You can drink it.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ شُرْبِ أَلْبَانِ الْأُتُنِ فَقَالَ لِي لَا بَأْسَ بِهَا .

4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from al-Husayn ibn al-Mubarak from abu Maryam al-Ansariy who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about drinking yogurt water. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”
