A Man’s Finding Comfort in the House of His Brother (in belief)

1031. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَدِيدٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَمَّنْ رَفَعَهُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ إِنَّ حَارِثاً الْأَعْوَرَ أَتَى أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) وَ قَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أُحِبُّ أَنْ تُكْرِمَنِي بِأَنْ تَأْكُلَ عِنْدِي فَقَالَ لَهُ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى أَنْ لَا تَتَكَلَّفَ لِي شَيْئاً وَ دَخَلَ فَأَتَاهُ الْحَارِثُ بِكِسْرَةٍ فَجَعَلَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَارِثُ إِنَّ مَعِي دَرَاهِمَ وَ أَظْهَرَهَا فَإِذَا هِيَ فِي كُمِّهِ فَإِنْ أَذِنْتَ لِي اشْتَرَيْتُ لَكَ شَيْئاً غَيْرَهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) هَذِهِ مِمَّا فِي بَيْتِكَ .

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Hadid from Murazim ibn Hakim from the one who has narrated it in a marfu‘ manner saying the following: “Harith al-A‘war once came to ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), and said, ‘O ’Amir al- Mu’minin, I wish you grant me the honor of having food with me. ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), said, ‘I accept your invitation, provided, that you do not overburden yourself by acting formally’. He (the Imam) went to his house. Harith brought a piece of bread and ’Amir al-Mu’minin began to eat. Al-Harith said, ‘I have a few dirham’ and he showed them. They were in his sleeves. ‘If you give permission I like to buy something for you besides these pieces of bread.’ ’Amir al- Mu’minin (a.s.), said, ‘This is what is in your house (so it is sufficient).”’

1032. hadíth Majlisī: صحيح

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يُهْلِكُ الْمَرْءَ الْمُسْلِمَ أَنْ يَسْتَقِلَّ مَا عِنْدَهُ لِلضَّيْفِ .

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A man who looks down on what he has for the guest is ruined.’”

1033. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا أَتَاكَ أَخُوكَ فَأْتِهِ بِمَا عِنْدَكَ وَ إِذَا دَعَوْتَهُ فَتَكَلَّفْ لَهُ .

6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If your brother (in belief) comes to you, then serve him with whatever you have, but if you invite him then you can act formally (as you like).”’

A Man’s Eating in the House of his Brother (in belief) without his Permission

1034. hadíth Majlisī: صحيح

أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُناحٌ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ آبائِكُمْ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ قُلْتُ مَا يَعْنِي بِقَوْلِهِ أَوْ صَدِيقِكُمْ قَالَ هُوَ وَ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ يَدْخُلُ بَيْتَ صَدِيقِهِ فَيَأْكُلُ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ .

1. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muskan from Muhammad al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about this verse, ’It is not unlawful for you to eat in your houses, in the houses of your fathers. . . (24:61) and I asked what is the meaning of, ‘or your friend’?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘That by Allah is the house of his friend where he can eat without his permission.’”

1035. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف على المشهور

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَوْ ما مَلَكْتُمْ مَفاتِحَهُ أَوْ صَدِيقِكُمْ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ سَمَّى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ تَأْكُلُ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِمْ مِنَ التَّمْرِ وَ الْمَأْدُومِ وَ كَذَلِكَ تَطْعَمُ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ مَنْزِلِ زَوْجِهَا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ فَأَمَّا مَا خَلَا ذَلِكَ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ فَلَا .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from his father from Safwan from Musa ibn Bakr from Zurarah who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ’. . . or the house to which you have the keys or your friend’, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘The people Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has mentioned in this verse can eat without the permission of the owner of the house, things such as dates and curries and so also can a woman eat from the house of her husband without his permission. However, it is not permissible for them to eat other items of food besides the ones mentioned above.’”

1036. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف على المشهور

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ وَ أَنْ تَتَصَدَّقَ وَ لِلصَّدِيقِ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ فِي مَنْزِلِ أَخِيهِ وَ يَتَصَدَّقَ .

3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A woman can eat and give charity and a friend can eat and give charity from the house of his brother.’”

1037. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَحَدَهُمَا ( عليهما السلام ) عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُناحٌ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ آبائِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أُمَّهاتِكُمْ الْآيَةَ قَالَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمْتَ أَوْ أَكَلْتَ مِمَّا مَلَكْتَ مَفَاتِحَهُ مَا لَمْ تُفْسِدْهُ .

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Urwah from ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has narrated the following: “I once asked one of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about the meaning of the words of Allah. ‘ ... it is not an offense on your part if you eat from your homes or the homes of your fathers or the homes of your mothers. . . .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not an offense on your part if you eat or consume from the homes for which you have the keys as long as you do not destroy it.’”

1038. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَوْ ما مَلَكْتُمْ مَفاتِحَهُ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَكُونُ لَهُ وَكِيلٌ يَقُومُ فِي مَالِهِ فَيَأْكُلُ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ .

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . and that to which you have the keys’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘A man can be an agent who is being made the incharge person to look after certain assets, he can eat without the permission of the owner.’”

1039. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ دَخَلْنَا مَعَ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ نَحْنُ جَمَاعَةٌ فَدَعَا بِالْغَدَاءِ فَتَغَدَّيْنَا وَ تَغَدَّى مَعَنَا وَ كُنْتُ أَحْدَثَ الْقَوْمِ سِنّاً فَجَعَلْتُ أَقْصُرُ وَ أَنَا آكُلُ فَقَالَ لِي كُلْ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّهُ تُعْرَفُ مَوَدَّةُ الرَّجُلِ لِأَخِيهِ بِأَكْلِهِ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Once we along with ibn abu Ya‘fur visited abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and we were a group. Food was prepared and we had lunch. He (the Imam) also took lunch with us. I was the youngest in the group and I made it shorter in my eating. He (the Imam) then said, ’Eat. Did you not know that one’s love for his brother (in belief) comes to light when he eats from his food?”’

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ أَكَلْنَا مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَأُوتِينَا بِقَصْعَةٍ مِنْ أَرُزٍّ فَجَعَلْنَا نُعَذِّرُ فَقَالَ ( عليه السلام ) مَا صَنَعْتُمْ شَيْئاً إِنَّ أَشَدَّكُمْ حُبّاً لَنَا أَحْسَنُكُمْ أَكْلًا عِنْدَنَاقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَرَفَعْتُ كُسْحَةَ الْمَائِدَةِ فَأَكَلْتُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ الْآنَ وَ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أُهْدِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَصْعَةُ أَرُزٍّ مِنْ نَاحِيَةِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَدَعَا سَلْمَانَ وَ الْمِقْدَادَ وَ أَبَا ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَجَعَلُوا يُعَذِّرُونَ فِي الْأَكْلِ فَقَالَ مَا صَنَعْتُمْ شَيْئاً أَشَدُّكُمْ حُبّاً لَنَا أَحْسَنُكُمْ أَكْلًا عِنْدَنَا فَجَعَلُوا يَأْكُلُونَ أَكْلًا جَيِّداًثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِمْ .

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd ai-’Aziz from a man from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn al-Hajj aj who has said the following: “Once we were having food with abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), and a bowl of rice was brought but we just left it untouched. He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘You did not eat anything thereof. You must take notice that the one among you with intense love for us is the one who eats our food well.’ ‘Abd al-Rahman said, ‘I then ate even the pieces that had fallen on the table-spread.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Now this is good’ and he (the Imam) kept speaking that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was presented with a gift of a bowl of rice from the side of al- Ansar (people of al-Madinah). He (the Messenger of Allah) called Salman, al-Miqdad and abu Dharr, may Allah be happy with them, but they did not eat thereof. He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘You did not eat anything thereof. The one among you of intense love for us is the one who eats our food well.’”
