One Who Misses Friday Salah (Prayer) With Imam

1681. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَمَّنْ لَمْ يُدْرِكِ الْخُطْبَةَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِنْ فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلاَةُ فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْهَا فَلْيُصَلِّ أَرْبَعاً وَقَالَ إِذَا أَدْرَكْتَ الإِمَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ الرَّكْعَةَ الأخِيرَةَ فَقَدْ أَدْرَكْتَ الصَّلاَةَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ أَدْرَكْتَهُ بَعْدَ مَا رَكَعَ فَهِيَ الظُّهْرُ أَرْبَعٌ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman from af-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who misses to attend the sermon of Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can perform the two Rak‘at, but if he misses Salah (prayer), he performs four Rak‘at.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If you join the Imam before the Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) for the last Rak‘at, you have attended Salah (prayer), but if you join the Imam after Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) of the last Rak‘at, then it is al-Dhuhr and four Rak‘at.’”

Optional Salah (Prayer) On Friday

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَغَيْرُهُ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الصَّلاَةُ النَّافِلَةُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ سِتُّ رَكَعَاتٍ بُكْرَةً وَسِتُّ رَكَعَاتٍ صَدْرَ النَّهَارِ وَرَكْعَتَانِ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلِّ الْفَرِيضَةَ وَصَلِّ بَعْدَهَا سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ.

1. Ali ibn Muhammad and others have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘Optional Salah (prayer) on Friday is six Rak‘at very early, six Rak‘at in midday, two Rak‘at at Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), then perform obligatory Salah (prayer), then perform six Rak‘at thereafter.”’

2ـ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ مُرَادِ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَمَّا أَنَا فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ وَكَانَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ بِمِقْدَارِهَا مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ فِي وَقْتِ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ صَلَّيْتُ سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ فَإِذَا انْتَفَخَ النَّهَارُ صَلَّيْتُ سِتّاً فَإِذَا زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ زَالَتْ صَلَّيْتُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ بَعْدَهَا سِتّاً.

2. A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn al- Mukhtar from Ali ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz from Murad ibn Kharijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday morning, when the distance from the sun to the east becomes like the distance from the sun to the west at the time of al-‘Asr, I perform six Rak‘at. When it (morning) is wider, I perform six Rak‘at, when it is Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), I perform two Rak‘at, then perform al-Dhuhr, then I perform six Rak‘at thereafter.’”

3ـ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ أَوْ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَجْلاَنَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) إِذَا كُنْتَ شَاكّاً فِي الزَّوَالِ فَصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَنْتَ فَابْدَأْ بِالْفَرِيضَةِ.

3. A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah or Muhammad ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Ajalan who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If you have doubts about Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), perform two Rak‘at. When you become certain of Zawal, then begin performing obligatory Salah (prayer).”’

Times of Salah (Prayer) on a Journey and Performing Two Salah (prayer) Soon one after the Other

1685. hadíth Majlisī: صحيح

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عِنْدَ الزَّوَالِ فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي وَقْتُ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ وَقْتُ مَا تَسْتَقِيلُ إِبِلَكَ فَقُلْتُ إِذَا كُنْتُ فِي غَيْرِ سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ عَلَى أَقَلَّ مِنْ قَدَمٍ ثُلُثَيْ قَدَمٍ وَقْتُ الْعَصْرِ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Safwan al-Jammal who has said the following: “Once I performed Salah (prayer) behind abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), at the time of Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime) and I asked, saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, when is it time for al-‘Asr Salah (prayer)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is when you release your camel.’ I then asked, ‘When it (time of al-‘Asr) is when I am not on a journey?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is time for al-‘Asr when it (the shadow of an object) is less than a step or it is two-thirds of a step.’”

1686. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ أَبِي سَيَّارٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ وَقْتِ الظُّهْرِ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ فَقَالَ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ وَذَلِكَ وَقْتُهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي غَيْرِ السَّفَرِ.

2. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from Misma’ abu Sayyar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the time for Salah (prayer) of al-Dhuhr on Friday on a journey. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is at Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime) which is its time on Friday when one is not on a journey.’”

1687. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِذَا كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ أَوْ عَجَّلَتْ بِهِ حَاجَةٌ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ قَالَ وَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) لاَ بَأْسَ بِأَنْ تُعَجِّلَ عِشَاءَ الآخِرَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغِيبَ الشَّفَقُ.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “This is a Hadith that abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has pronounced. ‘The Messenger of Allah, when on a journey or being in need for something, would perform al-Dhuhr and al-‘Asr Salah (prayer) together soon one after the other, as well as al-Maghrib and al-‘Isha’ Salah (prayer).’ He (the narrator) has said that abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not harmful to perform al-‘Isha’ al- Akhirah earlier on a journey and before the disappearance of brightness in the western horizon.’”

1688. hadíth Majlisī: موثق

4ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَنَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا مُتَرَافِقِينَ فِيهِمْ مُيَسِّرٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ فَارْتَحَلْنَا وَنَحْنُ نَشُكُّ فِي الزَّوَالِ فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ فَامْشُوا بِنَا قَلِيلاً حَتَّى نَتَيَقَّنَ الزَّوَالَ ثُمَّ نُصَلِّيَ فَفَعَلْنَا فَمَا مَشَيْنَا إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً حَتَّى عَرَضَ لَنَا قِطَارُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فَقُلْتُ أَتَى الْقِطَارُ فَرَأَيْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ صَلَّيْتُمْ فَقَالَ لِي أَمَرَنَا جَدِّي فَصَلَّيْنَا الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ جَمِيعاً ثُمَّ ارْتَحَلْنَا فَذَهَبْتُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِي فَأَعْلَمْتُهُمْ ذَلِكَ.

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “Once a few persons of our people and I were in a company, among them was Muyassir, between Makkah and al-Madinah. As we traveled, we were in doubt about the time of Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime). Certain ones among us said that we must walk for a while until we are certain about Zawal, then perform Salah (prayer). Thus, we did so and we had walked only a little that the caravan of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), appeared. I said, ‘The caravan has come.’ I saw Muhammad ibn Tsma‘il and asked him, ‘Have you performed Salah (prayer) yet?’ He replied, ‘My grandfather instructed us so we performed Salah (prayer) al-Dhuhr and al-‘Asr all together.’ We then left and I went to inform our people about it.’”

1689. hadíth Majlisī: موثق كالصحيح

5ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) وَقْتُ الْمَغْرِبِ فِي السَّفَرِ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَرُوِيَ أَيْضاً إِلَى نِصْفِ اللَّيْلِ.

5. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amir from Ali ibn Mahziyar from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from Aban from ‘Umar ibn Yazid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The time for al-Maghrib on a journey is up to one-third of the night.’ It is also narrated that it is up to midnight.”

Required Length of Distance of a Journey for Shortened Salah (Prayer)

1690. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ التَّقْصِيرُ فِي بَرِيدٍ وَالْبَرِيدُ أَرْبَعَةُ فَرَاسِخَ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Salah (prayer) is reduced after traveling a distance of one barid and one barid is four farasikh (which is twelve miles).”’
