Al-Qunut in Obligatory and Optional Salah (prayer)

1291. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول كالصحيح

5ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ فِي كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ فَرِيضَةٍ وَنَافِلَةٍ.

5. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Hajjaj who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in every Salah (prayer); obligatory or optional.’”

6ـ وَبِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ تَرَكَ الْقُنُوتَ رَغْبَةً عَنْهُ فَلاَ صَلاَةَ لَهُ.

6. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated from Yunus from Wahab ibn “Abd Rabbihi who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whoever omits Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in dislike his Salah (prayer) is not anything.’”

1293. hadíth Majlisī: حسن

7ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ الْقُنُوتُ فِي كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘There is Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer) in the second Rak‘at before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

8ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ وَمَا يُقَالُ فِيهِ فَقَالَ مَا قَضَى الله عَلَى لِسَانِكَ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ لَهُ شَيْئاً مُوَقَّتاً.

8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from Aban ibn ’Isma‘il ibn al-Fadl who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) and what is said in it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Say whatever Allah makes to come out from your tongue. I do not know of anything definite for it.’”

9ـ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ الْقُنُوتُ فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ الدُّعَاءُ وَفِي الْوَتْرِ الاسْتِغْفَارُ.

9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah from Aban from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Al-Qunut in obligatory Salah (prayer) is pleading (before Allah) and in Witr it is to ask forgiveness (from Allah).’” (Ahadith 1-9 are best explained in the form of fatwa.)

10ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) رَجُلٌ نَسِيَ الْقُنُوتَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَهُوَ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ فَقَالَ يَسْتَقْبِلُ الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ لْيَقُلْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي لأَكْرَهُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَرْغَبَ عَنْ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) أَوْ يَدَعَهَا.

10. Muhammad ibn Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “I asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who has forgotten al-Qunut then remembers somewhere on the way. The Imam said, ‘He should turn toward Qiblah and say it.’ He then said, ‘I do not like a man’s ignoring traditions of the Messenger of Allah or abandoning them altogether.’”

1297. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

11ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ أَدْنَى الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ خَمْسُ تَسْبِيحَاتٍ.

11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from abu Basir who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the minimum form of al-Qunut. He said, ‘It is five times saying, “Allah is free of all defects.’””

1298. hadíth Majlisī: سكت عنه

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله قَالَ يُجْزِئُكَ فِي الْقُنُوتِ اللهمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ قَدِيرٌ.

12. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Sa‘d ibn abu Khalaf who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is sufficient for al-Qunut to say, “O Lord, forgive us, grant us mercy, good health and pardon us in this world and in the next life; You have power over all things.’””

13ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مَا أَعْرِفُ قُنُوتاً إِلاَّ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

13. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘I do not know of any Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) except before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

1300. hadíth Majlisī: صحيح

14ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ يَقْطِينٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَبْداً صَالِحاً (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فِي الْوَتْرِ وَالْفَجْرِ وَمَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ حِينَ تَفْرُغُ مِنْ قِرَاءَتِكَ.

14. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id who has said the following: “Ya‘qub ibn Yaqtin narrated to me saying, ‘I once asked the virtuous servant of Allah about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in al-Witr, the morning Salah (prayer) and Salah (prayer) which is said aloud before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) or after Ruku‘. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is before Ruku‘ when you complete your recitation.’”
