Greeting of Peace and Non-Muslims

2211. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول

11ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْكُوفِيِّ عَنْ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْقَلانِسِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) أَلْقَى الذِّمِّيَّ فَيُصَافِحُنِي قَالَ امْسَحْهَا بِالتُّرَابِ وَبِالْحَائِطِ قُلْتُ فَالنَّاصِبَ قَالَ اغْسِلْهَا.

11. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Kufi from Abbas ibn ‘Amir from Ali ibn Ma’mar from Khalid al-Qalanisi who said: “I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (as), ‘What should I do if I meet a tax paying non-Muslim and he shakes my hand?’ He replied, ‘Wipe it with soil or against a wall.’ I asked, ‘What about one who is a nasibi (someone who hates the Ahlul Bayt)?‘ He said, ‘Wash it (your hand).”’

2212. hadíth Majlisī: صحيح

12ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) فِي رَجُلٍ صَافَحَ رَجُلاً مَجُوسِيّاً قَالَ يَغْسِلُ يَدَهُ وَلا يَتَوَضَّأُ.

12. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “About a man who had shaken hand with Majusi (Zoroastrian), the Imam said, ‘He must wash it but he does not need to perform wuzu again.’”

1ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْكُوفِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكُونُ لَهُ الْحَاجَةُ إِلَى الْمَجُوسِيِّ أَوْ إِلَى الْيَهُودِيِّ أَوْ إِلَى النَّصْرَانِيِّ أَوْ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَامِلاً أَوْ دِهْقَاناً مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ أَهْلِ أَرْضِهِ فَيَكْتُبُ إِلَيْهِ الرَّجُلُ فِي الْحَاجَةِ الْعَظِيمَةِ أَ يَبْدَأُ بِالْعِلْجِ وَيُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ فِي كِتَابِهِ وَإِنَّمَا يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ لِكَيْ تُقْضَى حَاجَتُهُ قَالَ أَمَّا أَنْ تَبْدَأَ بِهِ فَلا وَلَكِنْ تُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ فِي كِتَابِكَ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) قَدْ كَانَ يَكْتُبُ إِلَى كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرَ.

1. Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Kufi has narrated from Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle, Ya’qub ibn Salim from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) was asked about the case of a man who needs help from a Majusi (Zoroastrian) or a Jew, a Christian or that he is a farm employee of the influential people of his land and writes to him for an important need, should he begin by offering greetings of peace to the chief in writing, knowing that he does it for help? The Imam said, ‘Do not start with his name, however, you may offer him greetings of peace in your letter. The Messenger of Allah would write to Kisra and Qaysar.’”

2214. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مَرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكْتُبُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ عُمَّالِ الْمَجُوسِ فَيَبْدَأُ بِاسْمِهِ قَبْلَ اسْمِهِ فَقَالَ لا بَأْسَ إِذَا فَعَلَ لإخْتِيَارِ الْمَنْفَعَةِ.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Isma’il ibn Marrar from Yunus from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Imam was asked about the case of a man who writes to a chief officer of Majus and begins with the name of the chief before his own name. The Imam said, ‘It is permissible if it is for seeking favors.’”

2215. hadíth Majlisī: مرسل

1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَجَّالِ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ قَوْمٌ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ إِذْ ذَكَرَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ رَجُلاً فَوَقَعَ فِيهِ وَشَكَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) وَأَنَّى لَكَ بِأَخِيكَ كُلِّهِ وَأَيُّ الرِّجَالِ الْمُهَذَّبُ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Hajjal from Tha’Labah ibn Maymun from those whom he has mentioned (in his book) from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Once in the presence of Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) there were people speaking to him. One man mentioned the name of another man and he began to criticize him and complained against him. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) asked, ‘Where from can you have a perfect brother? Who is among man, free and pure of faults and flaws?”’

2ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) لا تُفَتِّشِ النَّاسَ فَتَبْقَى بِلا صَدِيقٍ.

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam and Muhammad ibn Sinan from, Ali ibn abu Hamza from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Do not be a spy against people; you will remain without friends.’”

2217. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف على المشهور

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ وَحَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ انْظُرْ قَلْبَكَ فَإِذَا أَنْكَرَ صَاحِبَكَ فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا قَدْ أَحْدَثَ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from al-‘Ala’ ibn al-Fudayl and Hammad ibn ‘Uthman who has said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Look in your heart, if it dislikes your friend, one of you has done something (wrong).”’

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَجُلاً يَسْأَلُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ أَوَدُّكَ فَكَيْفَ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يَوَدُّنِي فَقَالَ امْتَحِنْ قَلْبَكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَوَدُّهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَوَدُّكَ.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Isma’il ibn Mehran from al-Hassan ibn Yusuf from Zakariya ibn m h from Salih ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “I heard a man asking Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘A man says he loves me. How can I know if he really loves me?’ The Imam said, ‘Test your own heart. If you love him, he also loves you.’”

2219. hadíth Majlisī: مجهول

3ـ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَبَّالُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى الْقَطَّانِ الْمَدَائِنِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعَدَةُ بْنُ الْيَسَعِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ الله جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ (عَلَيهِما السَّلام) إِنِّي وَالله لأحِبُّكَ فَأَطْرَقَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ صَدَقْتَ يَا أَبَا بِشْرٍ سَلْ قَلْبَكَ عَمَّا لَكَ فِي قَلْبِي مِنْ حُبِّكَ فَقَدْ أَعْلَمَنِي قَلْبِي عَمَّا لِي فِي قَلْبِكَ.

3. Abu Bakr al-Habbal has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa al-Qattan al- Mada’ini who has said that I heard my father saying, ‘Mas’adah ibn al-Yasa’ who has said the following: “Once I said to abu Ja’far (a.s.) ‘By Allah, I love you.’ Abu Ja’far (a.s.) looked down for a short while then he raised his head and said, ‘O abu Bishr you have spoken the truth. Ask your heart about what my heart has of your love. My heart has informed me about what your heart has for me.’”

2220. hadíth Majlisī: ضعيف

4ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) لا تَنْسَنِي مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ قَالَ أَ وَتَعْلَمُ أَنِّي أَنْسَاكَ قَالَ فَتَفَكَّرْتُ فِي نَفْسِي وَقُلْتُ هُوَ يَدْعُو لِشِيعَتِهِ وَأَنَا مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ قُلْتُ لا لا تَنْسَانِي قَالَ وَكَيْفَ عَلِمْتَ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي مِنْ شِيعَتِكَ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُو لَهُمْ فَقَالَ هَلْ عَلِمْتَ بِشَيْ‏ءٍ غَيْرِ هَذَا قَالَ قُلْتُ لا قَالَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَعْلَمَ مَا لَكَ عِنْدِي فَانْظُرْ إِلَى مَا لِي عِنْدَكَ.

4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from al-Hassan ibn al-Jahm who has said the following: “Once I said to abu al-Hassan (a.s.) ‘Do not forget me in your prayers.’ The Imam asked, ‘How do you know I forget you?’ I (the narrator) then thought in my soul and said to myself that he (Imam) prays for his Shi’a (followers) and I am a Shi’a. I then said to the Imam, ‘I know, you do not forget me in your prayers.’ The Imam asked, ‘How did you find out?’ I said, ‘You pray for your Shi’a and I am your Shi’a.’ The Imam asked, ‘Did you find out by any means other than that?’ I said, ‘No.’ The Imam said, ‘If you like to know what I have for you, see what you have for me in your heart.’”
